View Full Version : ^^; little question

Hi there all 8O I had a question.
Is there a ritual or spell that is benificial or for the sole purpose of weight loss or just being less hungry (not needing to eat as much)? I eat fairly reasonably and get plenty of excersize, but I'm not willing to go on a radical diet like my dad keeps hinting at. (that all-protine diet. . . it's worked wonders for him but I'm still growing and not willing to do that to my body right now)
Any suggestions will be appreciated! ^_^

Uhm you could take a look in Healthy Pagan for ideas.

You can write and alter your own spells for just about any need, but all the magick in the world isn't going to help anyone lose weight without diet and exericise to back it up. My advice would be to eat less, exercise more. Talk to your doctor if you think it might cause a health risk. :) There are support threads in Healthy Pagan if you ever need a shoulder. :)

P.S. I know of diet spells and the like but in general they're for people who can't lose weight (ie. are obese) or have no willpower to stop eating junk food. There's tons of info in Healthy Pagan on losing weight so you might wanna go there and try it that way first.

well, like I said. I generally don't eat much anyway, and I get plenty of excersize (I have badmitton every other day, and I'm walking all over the place in between. No car LOL). As far as "obese" goes, then I figure I qualify. -_-; it's not so much that I'm "fat," as much as I am just a heavy-structured person. But it wouldn't HURT me to, you know? If you need "proof" I'm about 280, and 5'9". Scottish-ish build (aka very heavy bones and muscles, but feminie "hourglass" shape). That's why I asked here, instead of Healthy Pagan. I don't want a diet, just perhaps a little ritual of some sort to give me a boost in the right direction.

Well over there you'll find out why not eating much often makes you gain weight instead of losing it.
I meant obese as in unable to lose weight at all even after all kinds of exercise and a strict diet and even sometimes stomach stapling, etc.
I live with a bodybuilder so I'm kind of biased.

Well, assuming you eat 4 or 5 smaller meals a day including lean meats, fruits, veggies, low carbs, no sugary or greasy snacks, and do cardio and lifting workouts..
D Morrison has a dieting spell in her book Everyday Magic that includes using a blue topaz to help focus your energy on weight loss. There's also a potato spell around here somewhere..

Well Puma Hime, I think loopy has the right idea. Any ritual that you use will be more meaningful and powerful for you if you wrote it yourself, if for no other reason than because just the act of writing your own spell or ritual is re-affirming in your mind that you really want to do this.
Honestly though, I'm not sure if it would be healthy for you to lose weight. You said yourself that you have "very heavy bones and muscles, but feminie "hourglass" shape". As someone who has a very solid bone structure himself, I can honestly say that my weight will never get below 200 lbs. unless I make myself very unhealthy to accomplish it.
Some people are just naturally heavier set. To lose weight beyond that these people have to lose more fat than is healthy (since the body does require a certain amount of fat to store energy and regulate body temperature) and even lose muscle. Then they run around tired all of the time and get sick at the drop of a hat, just so that they can meet someone else's ideals of 'healthy'.
Forgive my rambling on like that, but my thought is just that if you're already eating healthy and keeping in shape, and that's the weight that your body is comfortable at, then perhaps your ritual should be on making it appearant to people that you're healthy and/or raising your self-esteem to not care what other people think/say about you, not on trying to lose weight. Just my 2 cents.

I don't know if it would help because I've never thought of using a spell in that way, but since samhain only just passed you could bring out the cauldron again and write on a piece of paper what you woiuld like to have cleansed from your life this year, like a few evtra pounds and then burn it away. Hey people do every year at samhain for all kinds of things so why not. But I agree with slvr_phoenix this just might be your bodies healthy weight and that's why walking and sports aren't helping...
But I'm just adding my pennies to the bucket,

Well, this isn't exactly using magic, but it is a good idea. Start a journal of what you eat! Write everything down in it, everything you eat, and how much, at what time, what you were hungry for etc. Also write down how you felt (emotionally) and how hungry you where (make your own scale). Now keep writing everything down for like 1 or 2 weeks, perhaps longer if you need to. Then after that time take a look in it and try to draw some conclusions about your eating. Do you really eat what you were hungry for?, did you eat more or less depending on your emotional state? Did the how hungry were you relate to the amount you ate, did you eat regulary? etc.
This is a great way to start, even though we don't think we eat much, and perhaps we don't but we might eat the wrong things, and I am not only talking of eating to much fat foods here, but also we may not eat what our body is asking for! Listen to your body... and it is also a good way to make sure that you are not an emotional eater, which I think is a really common thing...
When this is done, try to correct your eating habits to the better, make sure that you eat fairly regular, eat what your body is asking for, and in the amount your body is asking for, not more, not less...
Also pick up some books at the library, read about protein, carbohydrates etc. And as you probably know fat is necessary for the body, we must eat it, and if you eat to little of it, you wont lose weithg, and if you eat too much you wont lose weight either, find out what is the correct amount for your body... Also, for women we often need carbohydrates in the morning, and proteins in the evening, mixing them in the same meal will lower your metabolism some, but what your body asks for is what you should eat.... and then there is chocolate, another thing most women cant live without, go ahead and eat it, but only when your body asks for it, and in small amounts, we tend to overeat chocolate, our body would probably have settled for a little little piece of chocolate, but we (at least I do) ate a lot more than that... also dark chocolate is better then milk chocolate...
Well good luck!

^^; I'd just like to say thanks to the two pheonixes hehe
Well, I mean. . I know that being large is my body's healthy weight, it's just that I know that even just 10lbs would make me feel better physically.. . . you know? I have some lower back problems, and it'd probably help alleviate it. -_-; not to mention how supposedly every problem I have with my health is magically related to my weight, according to most of the DRs I've seen. -_-; you see, you have to fit the insurance companies' definition of overweight. . . *sigh*
But anyway, I like that idea, Pheonix. And Slvr_Pheonix, thanks for the support ^_^; this thread was really begginning to depress me until you said that hehe. I feel very shy about mentioning my size, anyway. . . because I often get the reaction of "ooh just eat less and stop complaining about it and run around the blocks and up the bleachers every ten minutes." I know that's sarcastic, but it's along those lines. It's a nervous subject for me to talk about.
(I'm just lucky I have a group of friends who find me attractive! ^_~ it's nice to have a friend who's not able to keep from drooling over you LOL ;) )

Not to attack but you asked for magickal advice on how to loose weight. Not for compliments on why you didn't need to loose it. In my opinion you may or may not need to loose weight-but that's not what matters. If you're not happy with your body then you need to take the available steps to do something about that.
That being said-I don't think any spell alone is going to accomplish what you are asking. The spell doesn't work alone-it works with your efforts. If you don't want to diet (for your reasons-I understand) and not going to do extra excercise ("extra" I did see that you said you get some exercise but apparently that's not accomplishing what you'd like it to) then I don't think any spell is going to just "melt away" 10lbs or so.
My opinion.

Emy - that sounds like a really good idea, I think I'll try that. ^_^ thanks.

I'm sorry if the way I'm responding makes it look that way. That statement did offend me somewhat, I am not simply looking for compliments. They made me feel better. Was it wrong of me to respond to that?
Also- I wasn't asking for 10lbs to just magickcally go away. What I was asking for was a helper, not a doer. Something to help me get started and such. Perhaps this is a sensitive subject to you, too? I know that it can make me very nervous, or evoke lots of different emotions to talk about weight loss.

Hiya, Puma!
You can use a modification of Practical Rune Magic II.
Take a dark red votive candle (imagine the flat surface of the candle as a map, & "up is north") & carve a Sowulo Rune to the east, a Kenaz to the south, a Laguz to the west, & an Uruz to the north. Invoke the Goddess of healing, Er (or Ear), & the God Thor. Ask for help with a specific amount of weight loss. Burn the candle.

My apologies for offending you-as you feel that I have.

Not at all-but I don't think it was fair to only thank the two people who complimented you (before my first post). Then you did compliment one other person. Not saying either that you have to like everyone's ideas. But the others who threw out ideas without a compliment could have been made to feel that all you really wanted to hear was compliments. (just saying maybe)

But you basically said you're happy with your diet ("I eat fairly reasonably") and your level of activity ("...and plenty of exercise"). Those are two key factors in weight loss. I guess you're asking for another "option". Have you seen a doctor? Talked to someone other than your dad who maybe aren't biased towards one diet or another? How about any herbs that might help boost your metabolism?
Perhaps this is a sensitive subject to you, too?
Not at all, but thank you for your concern.

Yup, I know I was offended when I read the response - it made me feel like I was being accused of "depressing" someone just because I tried to help them out instead of telling them they were wrong in asking for help - ie. 'here's some ideas', rather then 'oh you don't really need ideas, you don't need to lose weight even though you obviously feel you would like to'. Obviously just my interpretation and so on but just thought I'd add it.

Puma,
if I may offer you my perspective,
you are young yet, and as you yourself said your body is still growing...
mabey instead of eating less or more...
try looking into a diet (meal plan) more along the lines of fruits and veggies, you need your vitamins meditation is good for the mind and spirit as well as the body... and as far as "magick"
you may want to try a few candle rituals for health and wellbeing,
if you exercise...you will need nutrients......
v8 splash, is tastey....
juices.....
watch the soda
and watch the doritos, nachos, etc
you are concerned with your body..your health...so you will need to put forth a bit of work in the 3rd demension to coincide with the work in the astral.......that is what magick requires sometimes
magic needs a conduit for manifestation......
meaning...you light a candle do your ritual.....and the results just dont fall out of thin air, magick requires physical acts to get results...
even in the health area...the pysical work would be to eat healthy.. all of the posts in this thread were from people who care about you...and obviously you care about you too or you would not have asked for ideas.......ok im done lectureing ....sorry for getting carried away LOL

ok. . . thanks. *nods*
hmm. . . LOL V8, eh? ^^; never tried it. . . guess I shall! ^_^
I honestly do appreciate you guys' suggestions. And I'm trying them out. I will let you know what happens hehe.
Also - yes. I will admit it. I am very touchy about this, and sometimes it does hit a nerve in me to hear the answers to what I asked for. So if I've offeneded anyone, I sincerely apologize. I didn't mean to. I have no grace around this, and I should know better.
But I thank you for your patience.
Always,
Puma

Xander67 has some good points. Though personally I'm not much of a fan of either V8 or V8 Splash. Still, not a bad suggestion for those who can enjoy it.
Puma Hime, another thing to watch out for is water retention. Try to avoid caffiene and salt as much as possible and drink plenty of water. Maybe ten pounds of water will come right off with something that simple. :)
And for some kind of a spell, perhaps just a small daily ritual each morning to look in the mirror and then picture yourself as you want to be and say to yourself that you will achive it. Sometimes it's the simple daily affirmations that can make all the difference. :)
Lots of luck.

ah...
Silver,
that is some pretty powerful stuff there, (the mirror talk)
I have read about it :)
it is one of the most effective ways to deliver an affirmation..
there is just something about looking yourself in the eye and smiling...:)
