Hrm. It might help if you described yourself. :)

(psst I don't know if I would call anyone in real life a mage or sorceror)

You could start by thinking of what your interests are. Such as do you like gardening? Are you interested in herbs? Are there any paths that you seemed interested in? etc...

Why do you have to be anything-why do you have to label. Why can't you just be "Pagan" (if you are indeed that) until you decide you'd like to call yourself-if you decide to call yourself anything at all.

The reason that I want to label myself is that each belief system has its own beliefs and I want to find the one that I am more companioned to. I already know I am not wiccan because I dont belive in there beliefs but I have found that there are many many other paths and I want to know more. You know knowledge is power.

Um... I think you may be putting the Ehwaz before the Raido... (ya know, Rune humor sounds good, 'til you write or say it. :D ) Sounds like you may be trying to find a label that will lead you to a path, rather than a path that will lead you to a label. "Shaman" is a pretty general term, fits many paths (even some with other "titles")... you might look into working toward something like that...

I think the description over my avatar pretty much sums me up. And practically everyone, for that matter.

Well I am very new to the Craft and by labeling myself I get a sence of venture and loyalty. that is why I would prefer being labeled

If someone could just give me some of the supposid labels and some information behind them I would greatly appreciate it.

Aidan, why don't you start by telling us a bit about your interest? That would give us some idea what to suggest.

It seems to me that you are in too much of a rush to label yourself. I read your profile. Hessian decent, sounds interesting. I think you need to do some research. Your need for a label sounds more like you want to shock those that know you or a need to belong. Either that or you are like me and play WAAAAAYYYYY too much D&D.

Educate yourself before you rush to label.

BTW, if I were to "label" myself, I'd be: A Pagan Witch with Celtic & Green leanings."

Now take those items and look up their meanings & see if any of them appeal to you. There a BUNCHES more where those came from.

Well like I said I am a decendant from Hessian Nights from the 1200's throught the 1500's. My friends tell me that I am way too interested in the Dark and evil side of the Craft. just to set the record stright I do like the Evil side it interests me deeply but I do not practice it. and another thing is I have never and probibly will never Play D&D because of the fact that it was designed for pre pubesent teens and is not at all accurate at what the real Craft is all about. Divination and Spell casting/Potion making are accually my strong parts but herbatology doesent interest me at all.

is that enuff for you. well that pretty much sums it up.

For me, I guess you could describe me as a green/herbal witch. Hedgewitch fits right now but maybe not forever. I prefer to think of (what you termed as "evil") as the darker side of magic. I enjoy working with that aspect as well. I won't go into that here...there's a thread somewhere discussing this.

What you've described sounds a bit like ceremonial magick. Have you looked into that yet? Some call it High Magick. Have you read any of Alaister Crowley's work? I don't know if that would help but it's a start.

Well it doesn't really help to know who you descended from or magick you don't practice.

What *do* you practice? For instance do you like;

gemstones
tarot cards
runes
crystal balls
candle magick
simple spells
dragon magick
animal magick
angel magick
herbs
high magick
low magick

Your best bet may to be learn more about all kinds of Paganism through websites.

well, D&D is played for a GAME, not learning about the craft, but that's a whole other topic.

I don't know where you got the EVIL side from the darker side, cause, I've never experienced it.

I suggest you read more and educate yourself before you try and claim a "label."

Aidan, have you done any reading on different paths? Check out the book forum for a list of books that's good for beginners.

It's soo exciting seeing Newbies finding their interests....

I think in a few years I won't be a Wiccan, probably something else, but who knows.

I like the Darker Aspect, too....I do incorporate them into my beliefs because they make sense....

Part of being pagan is being able to travel down your path and pick and choose bits and peices of what you learn along the way... what feels right, you keep, what doesnt, you store in the files of your mind and move on...... who can "tell" you what your label is but yourself?? Ive noticed that my path presented itself to me and still to this very day, in a sense, holds my hand and leads the way..... maybe u should just extend your hand and do what feels right to U and not to ANYONE else.........

exactly why you should not be in such a rush to label yourself.....

labels are sooooooo over rated, and there are many interesting paths in the pagan tadition...or in life itself in general...

my advice to you would be, open your mind, open your eyes, and open your heart, just be! EXPLORE! LEARN GROW!

if you "label" yourself at such an early stage of your spirtual progress you will shut yourself off to alot of wonderful experiences...certain paths (religions) can be restrictive and conflicting...

I have been learning for almost 10 years, I dont call my self anything ...I simply am.... I am always open to new ideas and new awareness... and other people will be more helpful if you stand up and say you are not ready to choose a path...

it is a huge vast universe out there, explore it without the burden of a label and you will have one of the most rewaRDING EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE...

or if you still prefer, go head, pick a lable , without haveing seen all there is to see...and miss out on alot...

hope this helps

Personally I care very little for who I am descended from because "they be dead" (I got a buddy who says that all the time). I mean it's kinda cool just to know but it shouldn't matter. I noticed how you seem to make a big deal about that. I think maybe what might help you would be finding a magickal name that suits you well. I really think that'll help. Give yourself a new name that's attached to no one. Like I don't have a magickal last name, because I'm not attached to any one "clan" or group. I am my own person.

Oooo... Help in determining what my specialty could be. If you wouldn't mind throwing your suggestions my way. ^^

Okay, I'm 6'3", blonde, green eyes, getting more feral (longer hair, goutee) have no known exestential lineage of any kind. I bought my own Thoth deck, and got really good at reading it pretty quickly. I've been interested in Necromancy and magic dealing with energy transfer more and more as of late. I play D&D and World of Darkness tabletop RPGs. In these, I play sorcerers: those with the inborn gift of magic, and in Vampire I play a Gangrel, vampires with a close connection to the wilderness, and have been given the job as Scourge of the city. I like this stuff, and enjoy playing it immensely. I have a past-life version of myself...of sorts...and we have agreed to regain what we have lost by any means necessary. He's a bit more volatile than I can ever remember being. As for values, I stand up for those who won't or can't stand up for themselves. I help people realize the problems in their lives and try to help them through their troubles. I love a girl that shares a connection with myself and Max, but a few problems have arisen, and I intend to do everything within my power to take care of these problems.

There you go. Have fun.
