Sorry if this one has been done before, but I can't seem to be able to find it. I was wondering, who has made their own knives/handles for knives for rituals.

The problem is this: I found an athame that will be perfect for what me but I am having trouble finding a white-handled knife for cutting herbs ect. I was talking about it with my husband and we both really liked the idea of making my knife. I know I can buy blades online and have found some really nice ones on http://www.texasknife.com (http://www.texasknife.com/store/s-pages/TKS_MainframeStore.htm) and also with http://www.atlantacutlery.com/ (http://www.atlantacutlery.com/webstore/homepage.asp).

I am having difficulty finding a good handle to go on it though. I was thinking bone because it it natural and white and has a center core that is easier to put the tang of the knife through with some strong glue I can see it making a really strong yet practical knife.

My question is, does anyone know where I can find parts for making the knife handle? Also, what do you think of the idea of making my own knife? Good, Bad, Indifferent?

Thank you all for your time, I appreciate your help.

JayI've made all my ritual knives and when I feel really ambitious, I have a short sword blade that is going to make a dandy ritual sword. Atlanta Cutlery has a nice selection of knife parts, including all sorts of handle materials. The last time I ordered they had pommels with pentacles cast into them. Don't know if they are still available but you can look. If they still have the little booklet "Make the Knife you carry", get it. It contains everything you need to know about simple knife making. Good luck!

Thank you for the Info.

Unfortunately they don't have any handle materials and the ones I find at other sites are mostly black antlers or horns. Also, they sell the slabs of bone, not whole ones which is what I would rather use. I guess I will have to keep looking.

Let's not underestimate the many potential uses of PAINT.
I used that to make the handles of both my knives the correct color.

If you want bone, visit your local butcher shop.

also try a meat processor for antler or bone.

Thanks for that idea, just the thing I was looking for, now I just have to find the right knife.

That is a great idea. I just haven't found a knife that I connect with yet.

Does anyone have any tips when it comes to setting a knife blade in a custom handle? I am afraid I am rather lost as to how to proceed once I have the Materials.
