I just added what I had from last lesson - I couldn't find better info. :)

Below are some ways to cleanse and tune your stones before using them for healing. Keep in mind that it is important to always cleanse/tune your stones before use, especially if you use them for other things as well.

Cleansing

Sunlight or Moonlight

Leaving your stones in direct sun or moonlight for several hours will help re-energize them, and prepare them for use in healing.

Running Water

Hold the stones under running water (a stream is best, but tapwater will do) and envision a cleansing waterfall or other soothing water scenario.

Resonating Sounds

By spreading your crystals out and ringing a bell with a tone that you like above them, envision them being cleansed and purified.

Smudging

Burn dried herbs and wave the smoke over the stones. You can cleanse a roomful of stones easily with this method.

Water and Sea Salt

Setting the stones in a bowl (preferably non-metallic) full of water and sea salt (or seawater), and leaving them overnight. Particularly effective method if you are able to set the stones on a ledge for 3 nights of the full moon.

Visualization

Visualize a white cleansing light pouring from you into the stones; imagine negativities and impurities being pushed away by the light, and the stones being filled with the lights power.

Bury the Stones

Bury the stones in the ground, and leave them overnight or longer (put them in a place where you're sure they'll be safe, and mark the spot so that you can find them again!) Since crystals come from the Earth, it has natural restorative properties, and this method is also very effective.

Tuning

Tuning your crystals for a specific purpose can be important, especially in healing. If you choose to dedicate particular stones to particular things, make sure that you have a method by which to remember which stones correspond with which method of healing/magick.

Its important to do the tuning/dedication of the stones as soon as possible after they have been cleansed.

One method of tuning:

Remain relaxed yet alert; hold your crystal in one hand, and place the other hand over it; visualize a connection between you and the stone; determine the crystals purpose, and say something such as: "I dedicate this crystal/stone for use as a ____ tool."

Remember, some stones are particularly sensitive to light, heat, and water - make sure to do a little research on the stones before using the different cleansing methods.

I have listed a few examples below -

Avoid contact with water:

Halite, lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite, selenite

Light sensitive:

Amethyst, rose quartz, turquoise

Heat sensitive:

Quartz, amethyst, malachite, lapis lazuli, turquoise, tourmaline

Easily scratched:

Sodalite, Lapis lazuli, Moonstone, hematite, malachite, metallic crystals, rhodochrosite, celestite, apatite, fluorite

This information was previously provided in lesson form by Kalika for the purpose of the healing class. It has been copied from that lesson for this purpose only.

I know that there are certain crystals that may be cleansed in salt but not saltwater but I can't remember which ones they are.

I know that there are certain crystals that may be cleansed in salt but not saltwater but I can't remember which ones they are.

Any stone that is porous, or that would dissolve in water cannot be cleansed with salt water.

How can you tell?

Generally stones that have pockmarks, or have a chalky substance come off of them when you scratch it with a fingernail, cannot be submerged in water.

When in doubt - don't do it.

Salt is generally safe.

You also shouldn't "bury" the porous stones in Earth to cleanse them. It's almost impossible to get all of the dirt off of them afterwards.

Soft stones do not like salt water.IMO the best way to cleanse soft stones is to use sunlight or moonlight.

Precisely.

Like I said in my previous post - if you are in doubt of whether or not the stone will be hurt by something, don't do it.

Don't stones have particular vibrational aspets to them? While I know that you can embue a stone (as you can any amulet or talisman) with specific intent, isn't it prudent to use the correct aspect of the stone. For example, would it be prudent to embue the intent of healing bone disease in a blue lace agate? Blue lace agate is an obvious throat chakra stone, how would using that stone for the purpose of healing bone disease be beneficial? Or are we talking about tuning quartz crystals?

You could tune the agate to work specifically with the throat chakra. Tuning your stones puts you and them in balance with one another. It makes them a better tool for the person using them.

Why couldn't you use the agate for healing bone disease, if it felt like the right thing to do, if it felt like the one that would work? You could. None of the uses of crystals is set in stone - not everything has been tried, and not everything that has been tried by one person and didn't work does not mean that another person can't try it and have it work beautifully.

The facts in crystal healing are subjective. You can't tell someone that they can't do something, they need to try it for themselves and determine whether or not it works. All we are giving here are the basics, and what most studies have found to be true. This does not mean that other methods can't, or won't, work.

So, I can just go out and pick up a handful of rocks, it doesn't make any difference what they are, as long as I tune them?

That's not what I said.

You said that a blue lace agate couldn't be used for a certain method of healing, as it is clearly meant to be used with the throat chakra. I argued the point.

A "rock" isn't a crystal. Gravel, etc isn't something that you would use for healing. Stones such as tiger eye, agate, etc, are.

People need to experiment and find their own uses for certain things. Crystals are one of those. Just because its not mentioned that you can use a certain crystal for something, doesn't mean that you can't, or that you shouldn't try to use it for something different.

And if you want to go out and try to tune a handful of rocks - try it. Can't hurt anything.
