If you had a choice, shift doesnt matter, you can have any...which schedual would you pick? There is no other because your boss gave you only these choices.

I'm all for dealing with 12 hours of hell to get 4 days off! :jumprope:

I have done the 12 hour days, but it was 6 at a time and 8 hours on Sunday.. I will take 12 for 3

It sort of depends on the job I think. I mean where I work right now I do the same thing everyday all day when I'm working, and it sucks a ton. There I'd rather work fewer hours a day but more days but if maybe I had a better job where I could... I don't know... *sit down* then I might take a longer shift.

I burn out to fast on 12 hour consecutive days. If it was every other, then I might choose it. But I picked 4 10hr days.

A lot of people at my work do that currently. They seem to enjoy it!

From the options listed, I'd pick the first one. However if I did get to pick my own scheduale I'd have 12 hour 7 day a week. :bigredgri

I'd choose to work 12 hour days. It'd be worth it to have 4 days off!! :D

I would be more than happy to work 4 days a week, ten hour shifts. I work close to ten hours every day anyway.

I'd definitely pick the 12 hour days to get 4 days off. Coming from 10 years of working salaried retail where there were some 20 hour days sometimes and no such thing as overtime, 12 hours would be a vacation.
Though working as a paralegal has kind of spoiled me with the 8-4:30 M-T and 8-1 on Fridays... I loved working for liberals, they all had beach houses and wanted to get out there as early as possible for the weekend. Not to mention the impromptu office concerts with strolling minstrels, catered lunches on Wednesday and all the political (we were the official "Anyone but Bush" campaign office) and volunteer work (days off to do Habitat for Humanity, children's hospital visits, etc) we did. I look forward to returning to my job if I can ever get back to Pensacola.

Four 10 hour days. Wow that would be so cool, I might be able to complete some projects then. WooHooo

Well, since I'm in class for about 8 hours a day, then go to my "job" 4 nights a week and a couple weekend shifts, 10 4 hour days would be heaven. I get Fridays off from class now, and I love love love it! 3 day weekends rock my world!

I do the 8 hours one now.
I would prefer to do the 10 hours and get three days off.....mmmmm long weekend every weekend. I'd probably get sick if I did it though, because if I dont eat at a certain time I get sick and then I cant eat and then I get worse and worse. Damn my stomach.
^This is a lesson about not drinking or taking panadol in excess as a teenager. :hmmmmm:

i picked the 12 hr option..
my dad works similar shifts to that and it gives him more time to do stuff because he has whole days to do what has to be done instead of scrambling to fit it in around work.. something like that would work well for me too..

I voted for 10hr days, 4 day week, 3 days off , but it would really depend on the nature of the job.

If I had it my way I would work 10 hour DAY SHIFT monday-fri and have the weekend off. But I voted in the #1st option

I picked the first choice, which is what my current job is, quite pleasent, really.

I didn't vote 'cause my answer is "none of the above." I can't work for other people; I hate being told what to do and having someone keep watch over my job performance. I'm absolutely unemployable. So, I work for the most understanding boss around--myself.

i picked the last option, because although its a lot of work, and i am barely surviving 8 hour shifts, i would rather work only a few days, so i can get on with my life and not base my whole day around work... i can't even imagine what its going to be like once i start school... no time for personal stuff ever... I would rather have days off to hang out with friends, get things accomplished at home, have a life... sorry if this is a bit rantish, i'm not used to this whole idea of work just yet, and its killing me..

12s.
My ambulance runs that schedule, although they do 3 on, 4 off, 4 on 3 off. I think it's called the "Boston Schedule". You see it a lot in EMS.

i did 12/7 in iraq, which didn't bother me because there was nothing else to do anyway. if i had a civilian job where i would have to get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and drive to work, i think 12 hour days would be a little too much, although it depends on the tyoe of work and the length of the commute. i voted for 4 10 hours days.

10 hours a day, 4 days a week. I can do 10 hour days, no problem.
Right now, things are sweet. The training pipeline is backed up, so I'm working 15 minute days.

12hr days, 3day week(work 36 get paid for 40), 4 days off
That's the schedule my love has now. It's tough on the days he does work but he gets 4 days to do as he choses which works out great since he can dedicate 4 days to his writing.

What's another two hours a day for a whole other day off?

I'm proposing another schedule:
Three blocks of 4 hours, spread over the 24 hr day, for the entire world. One may choose how to fill in the gaps: either the blocks follow each other, or you will have 4 hours in between. Such a schedule creates work for everyone, in a world that never sleeps.
For people living in the same house, arrangements can be made to have them at home simultaneously.

It will be interesting to see if something like that could happen ... working nights already, I'd benefit from having something other than the 7-11 and one grocery store open in the middle of the night.
The Sleep=night, wake=day biology is really tough for most people to overcome, though. You'll have to be a little more specific about your plans ...

Well, know how some people always claim they're night owls? Here's their chance to work at night and sleep during the day.
People with children could alternate their schedules: they'd be 4 hours apart and there'd always be someone around to watch the kids.
It would severely spread traffic pressure over the entire day, dividing the rush ours by 6.
Shops and banks and other services could stay open 24/7, so people would actually be able to use them for a change.

If I had to pick, I'd take a 12 hour day. I'd much rather work more in one day, so I don't have to be at work as often. Its also really easy to pick up overtime on 12 hour schedules.

I'm doing 8 hour days right now and it's not so bad until the end of the day. The end would be a lot longer with some of the other choices.

I'd work the 10 hour days, 4 days a week. Pretty easy compared to what i work now.. two jobs.. one 11 hour days, 5 days a week; and one 2 hour day, 7 days a week...
Darn, I hadn't thought about it much but I'm putting in almost 70 hours a week.. no wonder I have no life.

Of course, such a scheme would require unprecented levels of cooperation between all manner of businesses and employees, since you'd have to coordinate all the people who want such and such time blocks, not to mention governments, who have such a strong momentum for 9-5, M-F, no holidays or weekends. That said, I love your plan. It's always frustrating to find out that the store you wanted, or the bank you needed to visit, closed five minutes before you got there.

I like 4 tens...if the three off days are consecutive, I can sleep like the dead the first day, and then get stuff done and have some fun the other two...
