View Full Version : Appreciation for Fluff Bunnies

How important the fluff bunnies are! For they evoke the dark spirits of schadenfreude!

I understand a little of the disdain for "fluff bunnies". By this, I understand the early 80's "new age" phenomena of people at occult bookstores afraid to even mention the name Aleister Crowley, who see all things coming to good at all times, and were in complete denial about evil in the world.

In other words, unrealistic optimists in denial.

However, the reaction to fluff bunnies has drawn out of the woodworks amazing schadenfreude and really dark, unrealistic cynicism. What smelly molds were incubating for so long that have such lust of hatred for optimism?

In the present atmosphere, any kind of optimism is seen as unrealistic.

If the fluff bunnies were the thesis,
and the harsh, pessimistic cynics the antithesis,

it is well time for a synthesis productive of realistic, energetic optimism.

Actually I tend to agree with you.
I think the term 'fluffy-bunny' should be reserved only for those who claim to belong to a particular pagan tradition but betray their ignorence of it with every word they speak.
I have no quarrel with many new age ideas and I don't think there is anything wrong with a bit of optimism; though of course it means more when it is based on reality.

(Side point.. I'm pretty impressed with the use of the word schadenfreude! Is it in common use where you live or do you have a background in german?)

See the quote in my sig.......

As for Ignorance, I say call them "Playgans" because one can be very knowlegeable and still be optimistic.

I don't hate or despise the fluffy type - we all went through that phase. (I know I did!) Most of us may know better now, but that's no reason to look down on those who haven't made the connections yet.
We don't all learn at the same pace.

I draw the line between the "sweetness and light, lollipops and rainbows" type and the truly unrealistic ones who don't even know the basic tenets of the religion they claim to be members of.
(Extra bonus points if also a High Priest/ess of said religion) The first are silly and rather amusing, while the the latter are genuinely annoying.

My response to either of those type? Walk away. Trying to show them the error of their ways is like trying to convince that damned pig to sing.

Agreed. To differentiate, I refer to the first set as the "White Lighters", and reserve the term Fluffy Bunny for those who are not only ignorant, but celebrate their ignorance stubbornly as something to be proud of.

That's funny Ben! The way I use the term "Fluff Bunnies" is how you use the term "White Lighters".

And

The Way I use the workd "Playgan" is how you use the word "Fluff Bunny" .

I guess there will never be a concensus....

Yes....Charmed and Harry Potter, for their faults, at least have provided the pagan community with references nearly all of us can understand. :alol:

Hehe! You made me look up schadenfreude (http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2000/05/10.html)!

I like to call them "dark fluffies" myself.

Well said, Carla.

I don't use any of these terms because I try to refrain from name calling.

Actually I'd like to find out what you all think of the term "Lightworker".... does it sound pretentious?
Reason I am asking is because the term "Lightworker" a very very commonly used term by the "light and luv" section of my local new age community who tend to either downplay or altogether deny the dark side of human existance.

(sorry, off-topic)

Schadenfreude! So that's the word I've been looking for! I knew there was a German word for that, but I had no idea what it was. Thankyou! :D

Right, I'll stop being off-topic now.

Ummmmm :eyez: ...well, they have the right to call themselves whatever they like, I suppose, bit IMO by denying the dark they're limiting their own power, because light does'nt show up against other light :ghost: Whatever floats yer boat,I guess...

Good idea in regards to the difference between fluff-bunnies and white-lighters. White-lighters may, I suppose, be given the benefit of a doubt if they know what they're talking about, but the second someone says that nine million Wiccan women were systematically burned at the stake by cartoonishly cackling Christian priests then they should not be appreciated, but shot.

Uh, you mean, they weren't? :T I thought that happened at the same time that the Wiccan Rede was taken from the sacred hidey hole under stonehenge by the Egyptian God Hermes Trismegistus! :kooky:

I am not attached to one particular religion, but I don't see what being optomistic would even have to do with your religion. I've heard fluffy used to describe people who don't want to curse anyone like that's a bad thing.

As has been said, the original poster's definition of "fluffy" is not the one I see in common use, but I do agree that we should celebrate incurable optimists! They come in the flavors of both experienced and ignorant.
