I am not sure if this is even an interesting question.. but I got to thinking..and well.. I wasn't sure so I thought I would post it here and see what others say or think.
In the US the government is trying to pass an energy bill and as part of this bill they want to extend daylight savings time by one month. So we would forward clocks 3 weeks earlier and fall back one week later. My question is wouldn't this change the date of the summer solstice?? They don't say anything about that, but the summer solstice is the day with the most sunlight.. so if they mess with daylight savings time, the solstice would be earlier than JUne 21, right??

Uh, no. There are still the same amount of daylight hours, regardless of what time they fall at. Solslices and equinoxes are based on the rotation and position of the planet itself, not the artificial times we overlay on it...

Yup. However, I don't see how this would save any energy. They tried this back in the 1970's, and instead of using electricity earlier in the evening, we had to use it later in the morning,it still being dark while getting ready for school (or work, I suppose) ,having the front light on while we waited for the school bus, those of us who had to walk further to the bus had to use flashlights, etc (bugger, I sound OLD...... :woah: ) The days will still have only so many hours of light and dark no matter "time" they call it :abadpoker

It would have helped me during the school year. Daylight savings came about two weeks too late for my liking, making two weeks of waiting for the bus with the outside light on and barely being able to see inside the bus. Very, very bad vision in low lighting here. Nearly sat on someone one time...

We don't have daylight savings in Arizona, so its not going to change our use of energy at all.

Parts of Indiana don't have daylight savings either....unfortunately I'm in the part that does :awwman: Nothing worse then screwing up a young childs sleep schedule twice a year.I still say they do away with the time change at all....no one I've talked to likes it anyways.

yeah, daylight savings is annoying, but so is sunrise at 5 am while i'm trying to sleep. it's a tough call.

I say, cut out the daylight savings time all together, but actually have DST become the standard.
I like it being dark around 6am and light at 8pm :p
