Never disbelive something which hasent been disproven...
lol
I have not been blessed by what I would call feries... however I have been blessed by the presence of good forest spirits... whatever name you want to put on them is up too you. Some of my closest friends have been in the presance of feries... it takes an open heart and mind to see them...

I don't think faeries are seen with the physical eyes; they are seen with the heart. Anything else would be. . . .
^__^ hai, I belive in them. I think it depends on what you belive. If you don't think that they exist. . . you probably won't see them. It's really up to you.

Of course the Fey are real. I haven't seen them, but I know they've been around my home. I feel them more than see them.

I see them with my physical eyes, and so do all my Pagan friends.
If you don't believe they exist or don't think you can see them physically you won't ever see them. If you do, you might.

They exist in one form or another in all cultures and mythos so yes feires do exist. But I think they are just 'free spirits' for lack of a better term.
Hey how else am i supposed to explain all my missing keys... lol
(a little spell usually gets them returned in a place that i have searched thourouhly, I should probably get a returning plate for all the stuff they borrow, hey that is a cool idea... *wanders off lost in thought*)

Of course! But I have the mischievous kind in my house. Probably pixies. I'm constantly putting things back EXACTLY where they belong, and then ten minutes later my dad tells me to pick them up. Much to my surprise, there's all my stuff strewn about the floor again! My brother's not even home when this happens. So I would say that faeries definetly exist. But some of you guys must have the pleasure of seeing the acts of more cooperative ones. :)

Here's my thought on fairies.............I think that one day/night some drunk guy saw a butterfly and thought it looked like a tiny person with wings. But who knows, just because I don't see them doesn't necessarily mean that they do not exist. It just means that I've never seen one.

Interesting thought but no all my Pagan friends and I have seen them while sober. I think the fact that you don't think they exist is what makes you not see them actually.

Yes, I believe their are faeries. But I agree that you have to believe in them to see them. I'm personly not sure if i have seen them. I saw a ring of drancing lights, there were all kinds of different colored balls of light dancing in ca circel, in my front yard, it was extramly beautiful but also kind of scary sence the rest of my family could not see them.

IMo, yes faeries exist. Some look at them as nature spirits (elementals in a way), and others hold other views; all different ways of connecting I guess, no one is right or wrong
I think though to say exist, implying conciousness, yes, but I'm not sure if they're comprised of the same dimensions that we are (meaning depth and time), and that's why its easier to see them with the inner senses. Anything is possible though, in the end
(it's hard to prove that one though)

I've talked about this with a buddy of mine. And we've come to the conclusion that people who think they are fairies/vampires/dragons/ect are really just in need of attention. I mean when you have to say you're a fairy to get people to notice you, it's sad. If you were one would you tell people? Like the aliens on 3rd Rock. ^^ I think they exist, but they're not people they can't become people and people who think they are them are as deluded as the ones who think they're vampires. Sorry to get off on a tangent but people like that are the only kind of people I hate with a passion. Faries may be able to influence us but no more then a ghost or spirit guide. And Artemis84 what you're describing sounds *much* more like a poltergeist. They're known for throwing things and are attracted to teenagers and children.

Ok, here's a faerie mound from a place (Kerry, the 'heart of Ireland) many of my ancestors immigrated from (I've done the reasearching on that..)
They're all over Ireland
You'd be surprised at the history Tv doesn't tell you, and what if these people dont' know they're "faery," I mean did you get a life manual when you were born? It might be more of like the Jewish people, where it's a religion and a culture as well, maybe you could trace it to genetics. Who knows (I'm less interested in the scientific side of it; science does have its limits)
(still laughing about tv influence here..)

oh oh oh!!! i reckon i mighta been to that one lucidfire!
when we had a bit of land in northern ireland, we had a 'faerie ring' cept it was trees.
and someone was told me that the celts were never fully human, that every celt has a little of the fae blood in them still, even tho its been diluted by time, its still there...i guess it depends on how you follow history! :)

I've seen the dancing lights twice that I can remember, once while prego with my daughter. My lil girl has lots of fae blood in her...when I try to wake her in the morning, she'll tell me she's too tired b/c the faeries had her flying around all night going to birthday parties.
The times when I saw them were when I had done something special for the garden...they love that! We also had a dollhouse table and chairs that we would leave little sweets on. Just invite them in!!

I think one of my most irritating features is that I am both practical and dreamy at once, so I tend to approach things with the 'anything's possible' attitude, but only if I see the results for myself! hehe So with faeries, as with anything else, I would suggest that if you believe in them, and you believe you have seen them, then they are real.
Really, they are a fascinating subject... I think they're a whisper or a memory of one of our many pasts and like nearly every mythical sort of creature, there is always an element of truth behind them.
I have also come to believe that childhood is the place you should always search in life for answers. It is in fact, a lot of memories from my childhood, that have guided me to the spiritual journey I'm on right now. I think half of the tragedy of our lives is that we grow up to be programmed as 'logical', or, alternatively, tunnel visioned in our approach to the world. In my opinion, science may be able to discover how things work, but it'll never explain why - and it will never quite understand this force that is life, and the soul. So to me, it will only ever be one facet of an explanation. If we have something as mystical as a soul, then how can we discount anything, faeries included?
I remember when I was nine years old, I used to have a faery friend that would come to me as I lay in bed with my lamp on. It would sit on the lamp and talk to me. Was it my mind creating this for me, or was it real? I have often wondered. I only wish that I could recapture that faith I had as a child, that way to see things so clearly.

Foxglove.... are you a Virgo like me?
I tend to follow the thought that if you believe in them, they're real... and if you don't believe in them, they're still real, you just won't be graced with thier presence!
I believe, but can't say I have ever seen.

November 26th, 2001, 09:23 PM
I think you summed up a lot of my own views perfectly there Niamh (and probably a lot better, too! :) )
Belief is one of the most powerful and personal things we have, and I think for the person who started this ... WaterRaven ... the best way to solve this is to answer the question for yourself. If you don't really believe - but are just curious because a friend claims they have seen them - then perhaps you already know your own answer.
Oh... and no, Niamh, I'm Taurus. Why do you ask?

Sure, dude.
Faeries come in all sizes and shapes. Yes there are the sylphs - the little ones with the gauzy wings. Elementally, there are also the undines (there's someone around here with an animated avatar that I think looks kind of like an undine, but the wrong colour) - like blue mermaids, the salamandars - like red salamanders (hehe imaginative name), gnomes - just what you think they look like. Brownies are like little dwarves with coal coloured eyes, little pointed caps, and long fingers. You've also heard of banshees oh and there's Leanan Sidhe who is said to be a gorgeous woman who is said to steal artists' souls. Then there's Gargolytes - they look like gargoyles and they're really mischievious and sometimes nasty. Yeah I could go on. :)

I myself have never seen the Fey. However, I am convinced that they exist.
Always having been a believer in a purpose for all things, I fail to see what balance they bring into the universe. Do they have a dual nature like humans? What is their purpose?

I believe that a lot of people believe that there are faeries. I have never seen any but that's not at all to say they don't exist.
In any case, in this hard, ugly and very materialist society that we westerners have built for ourselves, I believe that it is more important than ever that we believe in that which is outside the bounds of accepted thought, because that is the only way we're ever going to be freed from the darkness of capitalism, materialism and consumerism.
People like Dick Cheney and George W. Bush most certainly do not believe in faeries, and look how emotionally stunted and spiritually damaged they are. There is no room for magick or beauty in their lives, they live on a grossly materialist level and exist only to acquire power and money. How horrible a life that must be.
On the other hand, those who believe in faeries, those who believe in magick, may not have money or power, but at least they are free, and they believe in something that is beyond crass materialism and selfish acquisition. They believe in light and power and beauty, and believing in that manifests it in the believer. Therefore anyone who believes in faerie, is essentially faerie, and they bring that light into the world, a world which desperately needs that light.
As I said, I have never seen a faerie but I hope that there are faeries, and even if I never see any I am always half inclined to believe in them. And to those who see faeries, I envy you.

I would love to see the Fey. I do believe in them. I bought a postcard over the weekend because it looked pretty. It's a blue fairy walking with a blue unicorn through the woods. The title of it is called "Winter Solstice." I didn't even know that when I bought it! I just liked the picture. There's a bunch of Goddess symbols hidden in the picture too. I have it pinned to my bulletin board next to my desk at work.
Unicorns and dragons are definitely things I believe in too. For the longest time growing up, I used to think (and still do) that a Unicorn lived in the woods next to my house. :D

i believe... i've never seen a faery, or anything of the sort. i just found this path, and the first thing i went to while researching was the fairy traditions. I've read through the posts on here, and alot of other things(books, articles, websites, ect.) about people seeing them, or feeling them. which is more believable, that they are out there, or that millions of people just suffer from some sort of mass dillusion? some people do lie, i know that..some people say they've seen the fae when they havent..and some people think they have when they havent.. but thats not the only reason i believe in them...i have that feeling,(i dont really feel their presence) i think that they are around. i really hope that i'll see them one day, i wish i could befriend them, although i have read and heard alot about the 'bad' ones.
a couple of months ago i went up to the mountains with my sister and her boyfriend to watch a metor shower. we were standing outside and my sister heard something in the woods. there was no one around except the three of us and it didnt sound like any sort of animal. we all got in the car and the two of them kept hearing it...about 5-10 minutes later i heard it too. it sounded like something was pushing some sort of big boulder around. the strangest thing..we turned on the headlights, saw nothing. but there was something out there. maybe it was a fearie who knows?

I believe in faeries, but I dunno about dragons, though, unless they're small, like the one in Mulan.
Personally, I'd LOVE to meet a dragon, they're sort of my 'thing'. I was born under the dragon (in the chinese animal year thingies), and I've always had a fascination for them. In fact, my protection amulet\goddess representation has a dragon on the back, and a picture of the goddess on the front.
