We have moved into my in-laws basement on the request of my husbend. I trying to be the good wife agreed. Sooo, now I am haveing to work on our space. Seeing as it seems I will be doing this all by myself I thought it would be fun to post what I am doing and the results. :) I have started on our bedroom. The basement is half finished and has some drywall and insulation through almost the whole thing. I have already mudd and taped our room. I have to say, IT WAS NOT EAY!! :fpraiseyo I bow to the handymen of MW and say "how can you guys stand to do that stuff"? I gaged on dust sanding , it was tidious and boring and just took too long. And I have a whole basement left to do!!!! LOL! soo here are some picks of what is finished. I need to primer now and pick up my paint.

Finally got the room primerd. :bouncybob My DH got water base primer so it really dident go on so well, or maybe it was the brand? I worked on this today and the cats watched. Lot of help they are......

You are doing a great job Redring!
As for the cats... at least they do not seem to get in the way! My tabby always wants to erm, "help"... quite a few of my paint jobs have cat hair embedded in them! ;)
Your kitties are beautiful, BTW!

You are doing a great job so far. Here's a before and after pic of redecorating our basement. I confess, we had a professional painter do it... I'm useless at home repair and remodel....

Oh yes, isn't it amazing how much you can change a room with a little paint? I would love to give my walls a makeover but unfortunately my building manager is ridiculously strict, so I have to live with white rooms. Oh well.
What colour scheme do you have in mind, Redring?

I have a landlord like that also....so I found a way to have the color and keep the landlord happy....
there is a big, huge picture window in the living room with horrible white vertical blinds that can't be taken down...so I made two folding screens that are the same height and cover the width in front of the blinds to hide them and the horrible window(that has no screens) and it helps to shade the afternoon sun from blinding those in the room. In the bedroom, I didn't have a headboard for the bed...so I went to my fav. Wally world location, picked up a five-foot piece of bamboo from the crafts section, bought some green material that was on sale for $1.00/yard(bought 10 yards!), attached it to the bamboo by making foldover, button tabs to match....attached the bamboo to the ceiling with fishing line and white thumbtacks(took 10 of them)(the material is light weight and I only used five yards for this).....right above where the pillows would go.....I took stencils of bamboo and some oriental characters that represent words like happiness, prosperity and used fabric paint to transfer them to the fabric......if I can ever figure out how to hook up my sons digital camera to this pc, I'll take a pic to share....there can be creative ways around restrictions!

Those are lovely!! I feel a little better about my colors too now. You have some verry dark but bright colors. If that makes sense. I wanted spicy . somthing that felt alive and exotic, sensual. Sooo, my colors are an orange and red combo. I just finished the paint so I will add picks in a little bit. I thought the orange would be a little brighter but I still love the color. The red is verry atractive.
Ishtara, It seems my cats would rather watch than actually work. :rollingla The house now has 8 cats . five regular tannants and our three. It has been a time getting to know each other and some still have not made friends. Thank you for the compliment, I love them soo much.

redring, it really looks good. I feel for you on working with the darker colors. In some instances, the painters had to use 4 coats to cover the white walls, and that was after using a primer! I figured the darker the color, the easier it was to cover white, but it's just the opposite.

I found that out. My red just kept streaking. It is a lot better now that I added a second coat. I really could use a third but the paint is soo expensive. Sherwin williams really is pricy. I guess my family has always gone with cheap paint, I almost choked at the prices $25.00 was the cheapest can they carried( wich is not bad) up to $45.00. The orange brightend up a bit too after a second coat. I am verry pleased. All that is left is the floor wich we are painting agenst my will. I rather the gray whearhouse look to a painted floor. Maybe I can talk my way into a slideing wood floor? One of those whear it comes in tiles and they just slip togather. I bet my dad can help me install it so I dont mess it up. Then off to the bathroom.... I kinda like this pic off of the paint site and was thinking of somthing simular. I also like the idea of doing a statuarry theme but am afriad it may freak out visitors.

Redring, your walls look terribly... sexy!
As for the statuary in the bathroom, I say, go for it!!!
Too bad if visitors do not like it! (I am sure they will, by the way). After all, is it your bathroom, or theirs? Mmh? How much time are they going to spend in it compared to you?
As long as the rest of the family agrees on the project, do what will make the room feel really yours :)
