This may already be up here some where but I can't seem to find it so I'll just ask here,
What are the differences between moon signs and sun signs and how do you calculate each. Plus does my base sign, based on my birth date include one of these? Very confused. I know my reg. sign and it's traits but am at a lost for any other aspects of it. Please help
Brightest Blessings,

Phoenix, Everyone has a Moon sign, it is the sign of the zodiac in which the Moon is located at birth. Just as the Sun is located somewhere in a Zodiacal sign at birth so, also the Moon and the other planets also occupy the signs. Since our calendar is based on Solar motion, birthdays occur on or about the same day every year, also the Sun is always in or about the same place in the Zodiac. Astrology is the reading of a map of the heavens at one's birth as seen from the earth.

A person who is familiar with elementary astronomy can make a crude map of the heavens for any birthday (assuming the skies are clear) by observing where each of the major visible elements (planets and luminaries) are in the zodiacal constellations, In fact this was the original way to make a chart of the heavens and read by the Astrological priests of all ancient societies. Today however ,we can predict the location (with the other factors) of the planets and luminaries down to a second (") of arc many years in advance. Also, the modern zodiac (Tropical Zodiac) does not follow the ancient ways of determining the placement of the elements in the heavens. This is because they use 0 degrees Aries as being synonimus with the spring equinox, which is not the standards used by the ancient societies. (Right now the Tropical zodiac's "0 degrees of Aries" is acutally 5* 14' 20" of the original constellation Pisces). Insead, they used certain bright stars to mark degrees of the stellar zodiac. And besides, the ancients did not have an accurate way of determing the exact time of the spring equinox. Modern Astrology does not use stars to mark improtant degrees of the stellar (constellations) zodiac.

There are two major forms of consciousness contained in each person, the "Solar self" and the "Lunar self" . The difference between these two is raidical. The solar-self is one's presence, and natural demeanor of being without really thinking about it.
The Lunar self is one consciousness, memory, feelings, communications emotions, and being aware of one's body, its needs and desires. The natal Ascendant (the point of the zodiac that is on the eastern horizon at one's birth -first breath) is indicative of one's physical self -the body, which is a living being, that is reflective of the heavens at one' s birth. This is the reason why for the astrologically-minded should know all three. This also accounts for the fact that ancient Astrologers only used the Ascendant as being the point of reference for determining any Astrological analysis, and not the Sun-sign.

Your Moon sign is in Tropical Cancer or Sidereal Gemini. However since the Moon changed signs (in either zodiac) on the 31st, it is necessary to know your birth time and place in order to accurately determine its position.

I hope this helps to clear up any confusion..............Methane
