Merry Meet! I have been reading about how a witch can make a charm bag for sleep, protection, peace...etc. I was wondering how I could go about making or getting one. I have a big problem with insomnia and I need to find a way to de-stress at the end of the day. Any guidance or advice on the subject would be great!

Blessings,
Ashley

a charm bag is simply a small bag filled with articles charged to help you. Like your insomnia. You might fill it with herbs that will help you to relax to fall asleep, like chamomile. These bags you're thinking of might also be mojo or gris-gris bags. This website sells them, but it will give you more of an idea of what they are http://www.erzulies.com/magical_gris_gris_bags.php (http://www.erzulies.com/magical_gris_gris_bags.php) I honestly think It would be better for you to make them yourself. basically, find out a color corresponding to your need....red for love, blue for peace, etc. Then find herbs, oils, stones, etc that also correspond to your needs. Charge these items and place them in the bag. It would be better to make the bag yourself because it puts more power into it. As your making it, you can vizualize what you want the bag to do...help you sleep. All it takes is a small piece of material and you sew it up on the sides and bottom. You can fold over a little at the top and sew it to add a string so you can draw it close. Once you got it made, put your charged items in it. You usually keep it on you, or in your case, under your pillow would be good.

What you might want to do is make a dream pillow. Make an inner pillow of muslin and stuff it with herbs like chamomile, lavender.. maybe even some hops. Also, catnip is sedative for humans at least if you eat it... Then make a pillowcase out of thicker cloth and either keep it near your head or sleep on it--although you might want to add more stuffing for that case.

I love making charm bags. Everybody does them differently, but here's the basic way I like to do them.

I take a piece of cloth that corresponds to what I want the charm bag to do. Red for love, yellow for intelligence, green for health, brown/red for creativity, etc. Pick the colours that best suit you and your beliefs. Pick a cord (I use yarn for this, never acrylic, only natural fibers), and use it to tie up the bag. Now, you can sew the cloth into a bag shape, or you can simply cut it into a circle and tie it up with the ropes (I sew for long term and tie up for short term), whichever you prefer.

Then collect the items you want. Depending upon what you're doing these will vary a lot, I like to use herbs and stones mainly, but you can have anything that rings true for your purpose.

Collect it all, and take it to where you do your spiritual work. Now, I'm not Wiccan, nor do I have highly structured ritul work, so if you are, insert your rituals that you do here (casting a circle, calling deities, etc.). I always do a little clensing before, a sprinkling of salt and water and censing it. I then assemble the bag (if I'm sewing the bag I do this before hand otherwise it'd take forever!) during the ritual and charge it. I use visualization and concentration to charge my bags. Then a quick pass through the incense again.

After that I carry it around or leave it in a secure place until what I want has been achieved. After that I bury the bag.

I hope that helps you! :)

I love making them and add a tad of soft scent to them after they are finished.

I would also suggest looking into buying some Lavender Body wash and taking a nice long shower visualizing all the nasty stressful things washing off of you feeling the water revitalizing you and relaxing you and cleansing you from all negativity. In Your room burn some incense of your preferance and get a soothing CD to listen to I can drift to sleep listening to Gary Stadler's Fairy of the Woods CD it is that peaceful and relaxing. I begin to visualize faeries dancing and prancing in a field near a stream and before I know it my alarm is going off the next day. Smudging and cleansing your room can help too and dream catchers are nice if you have bad dreams. You can put a few drops of Jasmine or lavender on your pillow case to help also.If You do make a charm bag place alot of soft lining inside it and slide it underneath your pillow if not inside the pillow case.

Lavender and chamomile brings relaxation, hops brings sleep and mugwort brings prophetic dreams. Combine them in a little pillow and sleep with it.
Tea made from valerian (root), hops and chamomile, sweetened with honey will also help you relax and sleep, as will a warm bath before bedtime.
