Ground. For me that is the only thing that works, but hey you could try the old stand by of imaging them naked, though I've never understood how that could calm somebody. :-)

Good luck!

I never knew how that worked either *LOL* When I was in school I always had problems doing those oral presentations. I'd get so nervous, but remember its not that big a deal. It'll be over and done with before you know it, so don't freak out too much. :)

Good Luck!!!

I'm an actor by training... but I've always been fairly lucky before I go on stage or do a presantation, and have never become severly flustered or nervous before hand.

There have been a couple times when I have been worried before I started, and I would suggest some breathing exercises before you start. Make sure you have your material FRESH in your mind. Go over your lines (or notes) in your head.

Remember, the people are there to listen to you. They dont want someone who is simply going to try and get through it as quickly as possible. They want someone who will put their entire spirit into the lines (or notes) to make it a very moving and convincing experience.

I hope this helps you. I keep thinking about what I would do if I was about to go on stage to act, but since I dont play any instrament well enough to perform infront of an audience I might not be able to help you.

Peace

Having had to do my share of trumpet solo's I know how you feel. ^_^ If you're playing it from memory, look over the crowd, not at them. That should be pretty easy with trumpet, unless you're playing at the floor. ;) before you go out do some breathing excersises.. that somtimes helps me. Another thing, just concentrate on the music rather than who's listening and don't worry about making mistakes. About 9/10ths of the mistakes you make, nobody else hears.

Good luck!

I was in band for 2 years. I played the clarinet. Umm.. with me its always concentrating on what I'm about to do and take many many deep breaths. Grounding and centering works well too. Just remember that everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect :0)

just visualise that as you play, with every note you play corectly you are sending out beautiful musical vibrations in the air and those vibrations are resonating in the audience's bodies, thier cells resonating with the music, relaxing them, and soothing thier spirit.....

(it worked for Beethoven)

I read this too late but all the other advice sounds wonderful!
Let us know how it came out!! It is great that you were choosen to do the solo and you have to remember that by being choosen means that all your practice has finally paid off! ( If not you'd be the one sitting back listening to someone else doing it!!)
CONGRATS!!!!!!!:)
