It is evidently something written near or at the close of the 19th century. Can anyone help? Thanx!

Not heard of a 'Golden Legend' in my studies. Have read many 'legends and myths' concerning objects and creatures of 'gold' and or ' golden'. Any idea of who wrote it or refers to it? Could it be in refrence to the 'golden bough'?

The Golden Legend (Latin: Legenda Aurea) by Jacobus de Voragine is a collection of fanciful hagiographies, lives of the saints, that became a late mediaeval best seller. It was probably compiled around 1260.

According to the resources used in the Writing of the Golden Legend, it looks like Christian mythology. A good book to read on the actions of the saints, though.
