Hi Everyone!
I'm supposed to be doing a project for my photography class on the Elements. Yay! You should have seen me when I got this assignment. Anyways, I need to get all kinds of pictures that represent or are symbolic of the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water). Would you be able to help me out with a few symbols of each? I've got some ideas, like candles, incense, moving water, plants/nature. What objects do you use on your altars (if you have one) to represent each element? Do you have any ideas? I'd love to hear them! Thanks in advance!

mabey plants, or even photos of gardens could represent earth
and volcanoes or the sun could represent fire
water should be obvious LOL

Cool Class! Did you get to decide that?
Hmmm ... air would be the hardest ... perhaps you could photograph leaves for earth, set them on fire for fire, and take a picture of the ashes floating in the air for air, and then picture water dousing it for water :RuNew:

..........Thinking all four elements could be represented in an exploding, high altitude volcano. Mt. St. Helens. Penetubo, or Popocapetepl (spelling ?).

Thanks guys, a lot of those are really good ideas, and I really want to try them! Unfortunately, I was planning on sticking around home to do the project, therefore leaving out the whole Mt.St. Helens...
I tried to get started tonight... taking pictures of the smoke from some incence (for Air). By the time I got the lighting set up properly and the smoke in the right direction, I was nearly suffocated from the fumes! Ick!!! I think I'll be staying away from incense for a while...
I like the idea of the leaves in the wind. I guess I'll have to try for some wind tomorrow. I filled an empty sink with leaves... trying to combine water and earth. Should be interesting...
Thanks again! I'd love any more ideas too!

cause here in Okie land we got us a mess a twisters. and here at crazy Als every twister is half priced.
You could find a lot of tornado pictures. I wouldnt recommend storm chasin to get one.
Also hurricanes would have wind and rain and upturned earth.

I do have to take the picture, on black and white film. I get to process it and use the fancy darkroom and everything. It's awesome! Maybe I'll shoot (as in 'take pictures of') the clouds tomorrow, or head on over to my creek.... hmmm....

Sure causes me to think. Glad you brought it up!! I may try this just to expand my own thoughts about images. I paint and take photos, so this is pretty interesting!! Good Luck in your project!
