My sister has become really interested in the tarot. I bought her a set for her Christmas. But I was thinking of lending my Shapeshifter deck to her. I've heard this isn't a good idea....
thoughts?
Thanks

I've never heard of people lending their deck before, but I guess it would be something like if you were doing a reading for someone and got them to shuffle the deck for you.
I'd say it's up to you, if you feel that you don't mind having your cards handled by someone else, them getting their energies mixed in with yours on your cards, cuz I know that some people are very possessive of their cards..
(I'm one of those people)

I can't even bear the thought of letting someone use my cards! all the energy and focus I put into them! Just the thought gives me the creeps!! That's just my opinion though! I think that if you feel comfortable with it ther should not be a problem..though I can't imagine her getting a "good" reading from your cards! If you decide to let her use them...let us know th scoop...I'd be interested in the outcome!

I say, go ahead and lend it to her if you and your cards feel that it is ok. However I would cleanse them for her and let her make them her own for by doing some little ritual to let her energy mix with the cards, and when you want your cards back, I guess you should cleanse them again and do a ritual to let your energy mix with the cards... so if it is all for like a day or so, it would mean lots of work for such a short time... I was also wondering, why do you wish to lend her this deck?

It'll be for a few months, so I'll cleanse them and whatnot. And I think I'll let her borrow them.
My sister wanted to learn how, so I told her she could look over my books until I give her the deck I got her. But I thought it would be nice to let her practice on my cards to.
So I'll let you know how the outcome turns out.

I'd never lend a deck, though I let my closest friends handle my decks, and I gave one to my best friend. I didn't cleanse it then, but I suppose if my energy was that disagreeable she'll have cleansed it herself (yay Mage!)

A couple of years ago, I thought I'd wanted to try tarot. A friend lent me her extra deck. I cleansed it & everything but it felt wrong. It sat on my shelf for a while until I gave it back to her.

I guess that is a risk one has to take when lending the cards to someone else, they might not want to be lent out. I guess that was the case of the card you lent Wildchild. :) There might be other complications when lending cards from someone aswell, like not being able to read them, that can of course happen to cards you buy aswell, for me some decks don't work at all, not now anyways, perhaps they will in the future. :)

Personally, I wouldn't lend my deck.....I would give it as a gift, but not lend. (Even to family!) .....I would just give her the deck purchased for her. ;) That way she can get acquainted with the deck and start working on her own interpretations and feelings about the cards. :D

I lent a deck to a good friend once, and ended up having to buy myself a new deck. :p
He had never used cards before, and was interested in the deck I was using. So I let him use them for a bit, and when I got them back, even after 2 cleansings, they were still full of his energy. So I gave them back to him and got myself a new set. That's the only time I've had that happen, but it's also the only time I've lent a deck. I tend to agree with Dagda, Wild and Myst. Don't lend cards, just give them. :)

Im going to say the same too ;)
~ Id try and get her more into her own deck first, and if she still doesnt like it then maybe buy her another one, either the same as yours or different ~ if you get her the same as yours, you can teach her but still keep your cards and she have her own.

The cards are nothing...your insight is what counts...I will let anyone and anything touch, handle, read or play with my cards at any time! :D
Do what feels comfortable to you

I've let my sister borrow my cards for the time being. I thought it over and considered what was said, but I don't think I will have a problem with it.
If it doesn't work out with my cards after I get them back, then it doesn't work out. Lesson learned ;)
Thanks for the input! :)
