Any thoughts on or views on the late Terence Mckenna And his Theories concerning Gaian viewpoints and Shamanism? I have a lot more reading until I understand alot of the things he and his collegues have proposed. I do have his book "Archaic Revival" .....
I did find a good link if you're wondering who was Terence Mckenna....

God, I haven't heard that name in a while.
I find myself agreeing with a lot of his premises, but I'm not quite sure I buy into the conclusions he draws from them.
It's not hard to believe that were are still evolving. In fact its hard for me to imagine other wise.
I also agree that technology and language are evolving at an increased rate. I forgot the actual number, but I remember hearing somewhere that the average person recieves an amazing amount of information today, compared even with the 60s or 70s. An increase in the flow of language increases the chances of mutation. From what I understand, evolution is driven by mutation.
As for the bit about how ingesting mushrooms puts you into contact with the spirit of the mushroom, sure, why not, I'm pretty much an animist anyway. And it certainly seems that way whan you take them. Of course once it also seemed like i was able to go rock climbing too.(dont do that. its fun until you slip. )
but does that mean that when the mayan calender ends we're going to mutate beyond our wildest dreams? Or that mushrooms came from space? Or that DMT puts you in contact with inter-dimensional machine elves? well..........
I do enjoy his stuff tho'. And Tom Robbins likes him. Thats good enough for me.

Tom Robbins is my favorite male author! I used to have a tape of McKenna and have read a little of his stuff. I agree with Story that some of his conclusions may be offbase, but he was a brilliant man and way before his time. You've given me something to think about other than the work I'm blowing off by being here instead of at my potting bench. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
