Do you name your ritual tools?

How many of you name your tools? And if you do, what ritual tools do you name? I've named my wand, ritual knife, and staff.

My swords (yes, that was plural :holycow: ) have names, but none of my other tools do. Not yet, anyway.

I name my guitars, but that's because they're like my children. My djembe, which is my primary ritual tool, recently picked up a name. During a ceremony I was told by the spirits I work with that my drum's name is Tu-tu. I found out later that this means "soul."

Hmm. Never thought to name my tools....

I've been waiting for a good name for my sword to show up (it's a Celtic anthropomorphic short sword that my bf gave me for Valentines' Day :hearthear ) and I've named my guitar (Ruby, 'cause she's RED!), but never thought to name my tools. Hmm. That's interesting, though :)

Ritual gear has more of a feeling then a name.

On the other hand, I name my knives, mainly because they get used ritually due to their normal usage. The Boline was/is a self defense knife which ended up getting used to cut herbs. The atheme is a knife that I wasn't fond of so it got used in the garden (gets down to the deep roots better then anything) and because of that I became attached and gave it a more rounded purpose.

The Boline's name is Lovie. (http://www.knifesite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2433) The Atheme’s name is Scnookums.

Their brothers and sisters are Fluffy (switchblade), Cuddles (lockback), and Muffin (tanto).

I follow the Northern Traditions in this instance. I name my weapons. I've named my swords (I have four) and both of my ritual knives. I have a nice long piece of wood for a staff that will have a name when it (the name) is revealed to me and I know what form the staff should take. My double headed ax has a temporary name -- I'm also awaiting for that revelation. I imagine that the short spear that I'll be finishing -- once I decide what spearhead I want -- will have a name too. And yes, my hubby is used to me referring to my swords by name!

I always name a cauldron before use....other tools, I just wait to see if they have a name they want to tell me, but I don't ascribe a name to them otherwise.

I've only named one of my tools...my pendulum, which I call "Chaos" for some unknown reason.

No, I don't name my ritual tools. Although my athame, is a letter opener styled to look like an excaliber sword, so I suppose in that sense it does have a name...
