Ok to sum it up. SciFi convention, this weekend. Non specific SciFi convention. Anything goes.

I had to little notice so I have no time. I dont have any cash so the store is out of the question.

I have lots of makeup in all sorts of colors.
I have material and sewing machines but very little time to do anything. Maybe only a quick additive for a costume.

These are the cloths I own:
some old fashioned country dresses, all long.
Some Chemise style dresses, all long.
One long and beautiful silk caftan, I do were it for everyday so its not special. From India and its light brown and gold. Very flowing!
One shirt thats really pretty from India. Very colorful!!
One pair of black pants, spandex.
Some broom skirts!
And a few tank tops and tee shirts!
Thats it!!

Oh man the only shoes I have are one pair of, tie up the leg, cloth, tan, sandals,
and a pair of Black granny boots!

I am not a fashion type!! I really do my own thing! :hehehe:

Oh And I am thin and short with long black hair. No hair spray either..I only put decorations in my hair..other than that I dont mess with the hair! :)

Oh and I am 45...but goofy still works!! :farmerjoe

So any ideas for SciFi?

Note...I have never gone to a SciFi convention before and I never have done anything like this before...all new experience!!! But I am a SciFi nut! And I am not afraid to show it!! :antennae: I hope!

And my kids are going they are 5 and 7. They just want tin foil antennas!! :fishsmack

No, but she can make the costume out of what she has or maybe drape some material over her as yoeman Rand but the hair would be difficult.

Now that's an idea... if you can sew (and I think I remember you saying something about having a few different sewing machines around your house ;) ), go to wal-mart and get a simplicity costume pattern. They have quite a few that are from Star Wars, and some from fantasy/middle ages-esque, that would work nicely for a Con. Get some $1/yd material, and viola!

Oh, if you *do* decide to go as Yoda, remember to get green face paint from a costume/magic store.

And relax, Cons are great fun!

Which con? I may be conning myself this weekend..

I'd say with the chemise-style dresses and the broomstick skirts, you could whip together a medeival/renaissance-looking outfit in pretty short order. You might choose to make a quick vest (to look like a corset/bodice), or just wear a chemise and the skirt. Rennfaire-style garb outfits are quite common at scifi cons, so that'd fit right in and look nice.

I got it!! Chemise dress, make a cape out of an old semi matching colour bedsheet. Make a crescent shaped collar out of cardboard, and paint it (or cover it with matching fabric to the cape or dress) and attach ties to it to go around your neck so it stands up behind your head (think halo surrounding Mary's head) throw some glitter and make-up on, maybe some gloves if you have them and-voila! A Timelord (lady)-from Dr. Who :thewave:

Go the renfaire look and if anyone asks claim to be the second extra from the right or non-discript peasant #3 from any series you are familiar with that it would fit ;).

All of these are good ideas, just remember -- you want to be comfortable! You are going to be on your feet all day. You will find yourself sitting on the floor, expecially if you have to wait in a line for a panel to start (that's a lecture or appearance by someone connected with a SF show/movie/book series etc.) Make sure your kids are in comfortable clothes too and keep track of them! It is easy to mislay a kid in the crowds. When mine were little, I made sure that they wore name tags with my husband's name on them, so if they got lost and couldn't tell anyone who they were, the Con volunteers would have our names. That's all I can think of at the moment. Oh! Be sure to have fun!

Maybe you can go as a character from harry potter. It doesn't take a lot of material or creativity.(im not that creative sorry)

As for the kids...we are the type of parents who dont allow the kids out of arms reach in public!

Thank you for the caring advice. :hugz:

I must think some more...I cant decide which way to go!!! :boing:

At the last Con I went to last spring, two guys won the contest competition by dressing in all black (t-shirts and jeans) and going as "The New Xylons" from the new "Battlestar Galactica".

Personally, I thought it was a great idea, but didn't deserve to win first place.

Anyway, you can do something as simple as that = ).
