This is the announcement from the father:

This entire case has been a victory for Paganism and Wicca. Dialogue regarding Wicca and Paganism has flourished throughout the United States.
Positive religious education and tolerance has been the topic of communication of people from disparate belief systems. That in itself is a victory for the entire country at a time of confusion and political dissension.

All of that aside, I have no way to convey the relief, removal of stress and joy that now resonates in my family. We have danced, sung, laughed and cried today together in celebration. Our child will be able to attend Pagan Pride Day and see his friends this year. He will be able to join us at Mabon and Full Moons. He will be able say goodbye to his Great Grandfather at Samhain with us. We will be able to teach him our ethics and values. We will be able to show him how we worship and how we revere the earth. The biggest victory in all of this is our son will be able to make his own decisions about his reigious future.

Our families can now move on with their lives. I look forward to everyone joining us at Pagan Pride Day this year. I know I couldn't be more proud to be both American and Pagan.

We will get our website updated in the next few days for people that are interested in specifics and what we are going to do next. Until then, our family is going to be singing, dancing, crying, laughing, and giving praise to the Lord and Lady.

Definately good news.

Though it really disturbs me to know that the orginal judge assumed that the rituals would cause physical harm to the child without bothering to do any research. I mean, come on, you're a judge. Aren't you supposed to be doing research before you make a decision? Moron...

:woot:

This is the answer I expected, but I am surprised that the judge didn't deal with the issue of the First Amendment.

That ruling against the parents should never have happened in the first place.

Awesome how justice finally prevailed!

Yay for religious freedom! :ringarounIndeed. My copy of the Star (State Edition) just arrived. The story is on the front page, above the fold. A lot of people, including the judge have been educated.

yes that is good news, but what i want to know is... what was it exactly he thought would be harmful to the child in the first place. i think that he just said that to get out of his bad ruleing.

yes that is good news, but what i want to know is... what was it exactly he thought would be harmful to the child in the first place. i think that he just said that to get out of his bad ruleing. He said that because the boy was attending a Catholic school being exposed to Wicca would "confuse" him. (He's attending Catholic school because the Indianapolis Public Schools stink and everyone knows it.) Personally, I think the judge was allowing his personal bias influence his decision. The "confusion" thing was an attempt to justify his actions and he fooled no one. He was the subject of a disapproving Star editorial the day after this reversal came down and I suspect that this heavyhanded abuse of power will come back to haunt him.

people trying to smooth things over are just lame to me. i know that when i have kids i will expose them to both religons in our family. catholic and wiccan. he can choose the one he wants to be apart of. if there is confusion that is only natural just as i was confused growing up. i dont see how it would cause harm. i agree that he was just saying it to make his ruleing viable
