Merry meet.
Alright, I've been following the Correllian Nativist Church International, INC. Tradition (aka Correllian Wicca Tradition) for some time now and I would like to do a self-initiation ritual. Well, my question is pertaining to the anointing oil. Is there a specific oil used as an anointing oil, or will any run-of-the-mill oil that you can buy at a New Age Shop work?

From what I understand if could be as simple as some oil you made yourself ( olive oil infused with herbs and such)...or stuff bottled at a store.
Essential oil though cannot be put on the skin at all-- it's only for diffusers and oil burners. So you'd have to find something else.
Since it's a self-initiation ritual, do what has meaning and what works best for you. I don't think there would be a right or wrong on that ever oil you use.
Good luck :)

Well, i like olive oil, but i guess you could try something with myrrh. it was always considered a sacredherb

Far easier than infusing the herbs in oil is simply to cut the essential oil in a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil, jojoba, almond or even olive if that is your preference. Usually cleaner and stronger to cut essential oils than to infuse an oil. You do need to take some care with the natural oils as they can turn rancid... and annointing with rancid olive oil is not a particularly spiritual thing for most people.

Essential oils generally should not be used straight (there are some that are sometimes considered exceptions such as lavender) but they can be used cut. Watch the ingredients (not all "essential oils" are herb oils.. if it says fragrence oils it is usually synthetic.)

As for what to use... I don't know your tradition's requirements. Some traditions do follow recipes. If they did not specify, probably any oil will do.

Your suggested reading list says Cunningham and he says:
Initiation Oil

3 drops Frankincense
3 drops Myrrh
1 drop Sandalwood
This would be to 1/4 dram carrier oil.

My suggestion is to take one small tear each, Myrrh and Frankincense, and macerate them in alchohol.Seal and set in sun for 1 week When the resins melt, evaporate off appx 1/2 the alchohol, mix whats left with 10-12 drops of olive oil . Set in Sun, and use six drops of the oil produced, in the recipe above. You may grind the resins if you wish. Making sandalwood oil is costly and time consuming (it takes appx 6 weeks, but well worth the effort). It is not so expensive to buy, use 1 drop. If you buy all the oils, preprocessed, you will spend (in my area) around 25$. The process I described costs appx 6$ (mainly the cost of 1/8 dram Sandalwood oil). Plus, you have the added advantage of being able to actually embue the oils with intent as they are being created... very powerful...

If you make a small amount of oil, you can keep it from going rancid by creating a vacuum inside the container. Do this by gently warming the oil before you put the lid on each time.As it cools, it naturally forms a vacuum.. Its called being hermetically sealed. You can also store it in the refrigerator and it will not go rancid.

Is there a better time to start learning?

Yeah... once I'm done with all the learning I'm doing right now (Runes, Animism, Shamanism, 1st Degree in Wicca, Witchcraft (moreso of Psychic Development and preparing for spells and such... I can do spells, but I'm taking this course so that I can be better), and Norse Pantheon & History). Then I wanna pick up 2nd Degree in Wicca, continue with shamanism, oils, herbalism, crystals... maybe a few more. hehe.
