Today would have been my father's 72nd birthday.
It was not too long ago I was worried about how he thought of me.
Would he be proud? Would he despise me? etc...

Well, I had a little time to think about things.
Here's somethings that I need to say.

Recently, Mike left us.
It was a shock to us all.
Sadly I couldn't make it to his memorial.

I look at my life now and some things have changed since you left us Dad.

I finally found God, just not the one you wanted me to find.
I am married to a woman that every man wants.
The one that makes you happy, plain and simple.

Together we have 3 beautiful children.
Your grand-daughter is always on the A-B honor roll.
One grand-son is good at sports.
The other grand-son is following his big sister by getting good grades.

We own a house.
Granted it's not the Taj Mahal, but it's home to us.
We busted our butts to get it.

I am no longer a little punk trouble maker.
I had to grow out of it, half of my 'friends' went to jail and I didn't want to go with them.

I finally learned a trade!
It's not one everyone likes, but I love it.
Besides, being a cable guy has it's rewards.
I don't think you're too surprised about me doing that kind of work.

My wife and I have built a fairly decent life for ourselves.
We're not millionares and we don't have a lot of money to spend but we're not poor.

We have trying to teach our kids to be open-minded.
It's not easy, it is all too easy to close-minded in this world.
Sometimes I still am very close-minded about some things, it's easy to do without looking.

But overall I think we're doing good.

I only wish you could see all of your grand-children.
My nephew is a kind hearted boy, a big jock type, but really a good kid.
Our daughter is a pleasent little girl who alwyas tried to please.
Our 2 boys are little boys.
Doing what little boys always do, the things they shouldn't be doing.

All in all, I think you'd be proud of your little boy.
He hasn't done all that bad for himself.

In my belief he is looking down and sees the wonderful parent and partner You have blossomed into and the lovely children you have! I am sure he is indeed very proud even if You did not follow so close in his footsteps! :hugz:

My friend... this is somethig some of us deal with... yea.. I must say that I can honestly say, as well as I know you, that he would be and is very proud of you, and even more because you still care about what he thinks. Being remembered and mentioned is something to fill one with pride all in itself. Feel good, Gareth.
