So I get back from my big trip abroad to find that life here in the US is falling apart.
First off, my *oldest* friend has developed Hodgkin's Disease. She's sixteen, *beautiful*, intelligent, sweet... and now she's being struck down in her prime. The worst part (psychologically, at least) is that she has the most gorgeous fire-orange hair I've ever seen -- and now it's falling out in handfulls. Everybody say a little something for Heather, would'ja?
And Secondly, my great-uncle just died (this morning) of a freak heart-attack; he was a great person, a civil rights activist with strong convictions, a minister. Still, he's not the one that needs energy -- he's dead, remember? My grandmother Sue, his sister, isn't taking the loss very well: when she found out this morning she fainted while still holding on to the phone, for one thing. Now that she has to travel to Alabama (a day's journey by car), I'm afraid that it is only going to get more rough for her. I'm sure that she could use any support she can get.
