Ok so I’m watching this show in Spanish about protecting against negative energy and all that. And I hear the woman mention that there are 14 chakras. Am I the only one who this is news to? I know of the 7 that start at the crown and end at the base of the spine.
This woman mentions that there are 7 more after that. That this information is kept secret because they leave a person venerable to becoming controlled by others. (???)
Anyone else heard of this?

Nope, never heard of it. Last I knew there were just the 7.

I knew of 7, not 14.
So, where are the other 7?

They correspond with the 14 spheres or worlds, apparently, and the other seven are located underneath the root chakra. They do not correspond with any locations on the human body.

I have heard of there being more chakras and that 8 - 12 are spiritual ones. They call it an advanced spiritual chakra system. www.wisdomsdoor.com/hb/hhb-20.shtml (www.wisdomsdoor.com/hb/hhb-20.shtml)

I went to a store for crystals to practice Chakra with and the woman there said 21,but the total number of crystals I would need is 7!!!!!!
The book I'm using is The 7 Healing Points of Chakra....I'm confused now
I don't think there's ROOM on me for 21!!!

The chakra system from Yoga does, indeed, only have seven ... but that's the "map," not the terrain. Evidently the "advanced chakra system" has a different map.
But in either case, perhaps it is well to remember that the map is not the terrain. ;)

I have heard that there are 12....that the 7 that are usually taught are the main ones. I cant remember where the others are but I do know that there is one behind the knees and one at the bottom of the feet. I have a book around here somewhere. I'll have to find it to refresh my memory.

One big difference (IMrhO) between the "seven chakras" map of Yoga and the "more than seven" maps that some other paths use may very well have to do with the posture used for the work, and the type of work done.
Think about it ... Practitioners of yoga frequently sit to meditate. Depending on the specific school, their yoga is entirely "internal"--meaning that while the master may be able to teach a chela to move their energy, the master does not himself move the chela's energy--the chela must do so himself.
Practitioners of Western magics tend to stand to work. Additionally, there is a much greater emphasis on "projection" of energy, so of course the hads would be two additional chakras.
 Dunno if it's significant, but I thought it was interesting. ;)

There are 14 (7 major, 7 minor and probably a lot more very-minor ones :seehearsp ). The extra 7 are in your hands - the point between your thumb and forefinger which is used in reflexology - your feet and your knees, and there is one above your head :)
I made a factsheet about it several years back, when I spent many months working with my chakras trying to cure my depression (which Im glad to say, worked :fpompoms).
The factsheet is located here (http://www.cafepress.com/wellofdreams.23816278) - click the "view larger" link to see a bigger picture :)

I've never known of so many. I'm familiar with the 'typical' seven, but I'm also aware of just five.

Actually, according to Reiki there are 49 Chakra-s, it's just that most people deal most often with the popular 7. When I first got into Psychic Development I got into trouble because I sensed different ones, but have since discovered that Reiki (at least) calls these the 'developing chakra-s'.

http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/books/mws/mws_resource-03.html (http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/books/mws/mws_resource-03.html) - 14 chakras, nothing about the hands. That's what I was referring to.
There are other, minor chakras, all over the place, including the hands. These seem to be the major chakras, however.

Most people only deal with the main 7, but I have seen a map with like hundreds....

Yes there are 7 major centres, but there are 100's of minor ones. That is actually what acupuncture is associated with.
