Ah.....read the article!
"Observers in North America, Hawaii, Australia and Asian nations on the Pacific Rim should have the best views of the 2001 Leonids, which will take place overnight November 17 and 18.
The prime observation times in North America will likely take place in the hours before dawn. In New York, for example, that means 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. EST.
........
Regardless, prime time will be between midnight and sunrise on November 18. Astronomers suggest that meteor hunters watch the sky from in a darkened site as far from urban light pollution as possible. "
You haven't missed it yet! :D .....I'm looking forward to tonight....if only it would clear up! .....darned overcast skies!

I think our local weatherman who is an astronomy nut said it will be best before dawn tomorrow. He said maybe a thousand an hour. Wow!

I am psyched to see these too. We are planning on getting up at 5am tomorrow morning. A few of our neighbors plan to do this too- should be fun!:D
Any photographers out there who are going to try to shoot/film this? I would love too, but don't know how. We have a digital camcorder and a good 35mm Canon with some long lenses. But I don't know if they will catch any of it. We tried to photograph a full moon once and it just came out as a white ball on black.

Last night was just the beginning...we saw a few...tonight and tomorrow will be much better. And for anyone who does live in the city. Try going to a roof top...even if your not in a very dark place you will still be able to see most of it! Enjoy!

Yup... I'll be heading out in about 45 minutes to go watch... Its not that late for me... it will only be about 2am here (BC), in the eastern horizon. I'm looking forward to it.
I love watching shooting stars. Its one of those things you can really enjoy. I've slept under the stars (many times), just sitting out there, looking up, trying to wrap your head around those fantastic distances, and trying to understand (something which I dont understand even though I understand the logic behind it... it is something too huge and overwhelming for a measly human brain, no matter how smart, to understand completly)
Well yeah... happy stargazing...

Doesn't it just figure? We've got more fog here then there's been in years! I probably won't be able to see anything! :(

Me, my hubby and our roomate just got back inside from watching the meteors. We're quite numb but it was well worth it. The meteor shower was absolutely beautiful. We have it on video too, including all of our child like ooohhhs and ahhhhhs, lol.
Love & light always,

That was so awesome!! I never felt more teeny tiny in my whole life....(wich is hard by the way, i'm 6ft2 he he he)
That was the best shower i've ever seen!! I've seen tons of shooting stars before, but this was incredible... i felt like a little kid again, out watching the fireworks... all you could hear from either myself or my friends (besides the chattering of teeth) were ooooohhhhsss and aaaahhhhhsss, and wows... :boing:
What an incredible evening/morning.... not one i'll forget in a long time. :rotfl:
The only damper on the whole thing is that we were scared and chased inside by a pesky skunk... wich is for the best i'm sure, or else our toes might have fallen off. Oh well, i prefer hot chocolate to a skunky tomato bath anyday!!
:bug:hope you all got out to peek!!:woah:

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! PRETTY!!!!!!!! :) :) :)
Hubby and I had a romantic night/morning afterall!!!! He came into the bedroom around five, to wake me up. We stood outside and watched the meteor shower! It was amazing! All those streaks, and the clear starlit sky! It was BEAUTIFUL! I'm SOOOOOO Glad my husband woke me up!

That was GREAT! Being able to see 5 or six balls of fire rip a tear in the fabric of space in quick succession was amazing. Definatly one of the best meteor showers I've seen in ages. Big ones, small ones, inbetween ones...
And luckily there were NO clouds! Which is indeed a blessing when you live where I live (wet coast). Made it a bit chillier than normal (I think it actually got below zero [thats celsius BTW]). Mind you, I was not cold at all, I bundled up in 4 layers of sweaters, two thin pairs of pants, touque, scarf, gloves, and lay on the top of a hill in a sleeping bag. Good times had by all (well just me actually). But hey...
Have fun.

i woke up just after 4 am and watched it out my window.. the wind chill here was -10C... brrrrr. But Orion was filling the sky and i saw more shooting stars in a short space of time then i could count... including one that came so low and close i could hear it.
Yes, UnSolon - it does stretch the mind out.... what is beyond the furthest universe? Infinity. Yes, but what's beyond infinity........? Sometimes i can almost understand it if i think in terms of fractals... a molecule is a fractal of the solar system which is a fractal of the universe which is a fractal of... what? Maybe that is the beginning of understanding.. when i understand how little i understand. bb talamh

Wasn't it great? We went out and met my neighbors in the street. The stars were just glistening and there wasn't a cloud (or a plane) in the sky. We saw so many of them and I kept spinning to see all of them. I felt like those Bobble (wobble?) Head Toys :p We even saw one turn green and explode.
When the alarm went off at 5am, I almost ended up forgetting about it, I am so glad I didn't.
And yes, I felt that tiny too. Yet big and connected to it All, at the same time.

Wow! 5 am? You got lucky! I live in Minnesota so I had to wake up at 2. But it was definetely worth it! I stood out on my porch for a good half an hour and saw a grand total of 30! Some of those meteors are gigantic! I just stood there with my mouth hanging open every time a big one went past. They leave big streaks across the sky that are simply amazing! It all made me feel like the littlest witch in the world. :D

Oh my holy good god that was soooo pretty!!
My boyfriend, along with some friends and I broke curfew at midnight to go to this dark park and watch the shower. Coming from a girl who had only seen one non-exciting shooting star in her whole life, I was soooo psyched. They were so pretty! Bright orange balls with blue/green tails shooting straight across the sky, one, two, even four at a time at times! We decided to go back to my house and watch it on my roof when the real show started to kick up. We were outside from midnight until about 3:20 just watching the stars....it was really cool...
(then we went inside where it was warm and I kicked my boyfriend's butt at Soul Caliber :D:D:D)
