Hope this is in the right place:)

Just wanted to say that I got an interesting call today about getting approved for a $2000 credit card. I assumed it was a company that I had just applied for a card with and not herd back from yet.

I was excited I agreed. Then the operator said that there was no APR? And a one time fee of $249??? Have a nice day? After she has my checking info.

I typed in the so called customer service number to google (1-866-333-7715) and got this LINK (http://w3.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff152407.htm).

I am going to close my bank account tommorrow and tell them what happened. Sooo, I just wanted to make this post to warn anyone at MW, I don't want anyone here getting screwed over by a credit card scam.

Love,

This sounds a lot like the scam I got pulled into, only it was by a different company. I got a call about a credit card. The offer was great. $2000 limit, no security dep required, and a $500 gift card to KB Toys. I thought this was just great seeing as how Christmas was coming up. I talked at length with the very nice older gentleman who had called (I honestly don't think he even knew it was a scam) He said that they would need my checking account number just to secure the card and that I would not be charged anything. So I gave it to him. Later that day I decided to check out this company with the BBB. They had a very poor rating with reports of many rip offs. So I called the customer service number I was givin and told them I did not want the card. About a month later I started bouncing checks. I called the bank, enraged, and found out that this company had withdrew $199 from my account! I called them, thoroughly chewed out every supervisor there was, and was assured that my account would be re-credited the money. That was 7 years ago. My account was never credited, the bank closed my account, and sent the debt to collections. I have since found out that the company disappeared shortly after I was scammed.

Real moral of the story folks: It's not to not give your account numbers to anyone. That's just stupid. No, it's really that you shouldn't attempt to get a credit card from any company that you don't recognize! I don't care how great it sounds, or how low an interest rate they say you're going to get, DON'T DO IT!!! Unless it's a bank you know is legit, such as Key, Bank of America, or some other well known bank, forget about it!

I got a random phone call today for a credit card, too. The Jamacan sounding woman was telling me about how they were marketing to college students and that this was the perfect card for them because this company really knew what a student's needs were and blah blah blah. I just told her I wasn't interested and hung up the phone. Wonder if it was the same thing.

Its just so sad, because a lot of credit scams like this are aimed at people who really need it at the time. I also think that the scam I got caught up in may have been involved with a cash advance site I checked out. Didn't send any of my checking account info just my name email address and phone. Never herd from this cash advance company and then this phone call??? Seems like a great way to see who needs money and get em while their down.

Its just so sad that some people need to take others hard earned money with scams when if they put their minds towards something more productive they could really make as much money, if not A LOT more contributing to society like everyone else. Some of the scams are quite witty and take some thought so why not use their brains for something smarter????

Thanks for posting this.

The first person on the website mentioned a call from a "Linda." My mom got a call the other day from a woman named "Linda." She left a message along the lines of "Hey, this is Linda. Its really important. Give me a call." Mom doesn't know anyone named Linda.

Now that I have a number for this company, I was able to look back in Mom's phone record and the number matches.

This kind of stuff gets you so angry. The sad part is that this company will likely change names and tactics and start all over again.
