The Suckling
November 17th, 2001, 03:57 AM
Mine is quite simple. A suckling is nursing baby. This is a symbol of my Cancer sign, 69, which to me represents a desire to mother and be mothered, a steady flow of thoughts and feelings. This describes my ideal human relationships. Also, it has the bonus feature of pissing off homophobes, one of my favorite passtimes. ;)

UnSolon
November 17th, 2001, 04:32 AM
well lets see now. Well I've used UnSolon for awhile now, so it does not really have much meaning other than sentimental.

However, Solon was a real person. Solon was a famous Athenian Senator. The story goes, as told by Herodotus, the FIRST historian, that Solon agreed to pass a series of laws imposed by the people of Athens, and in return he would be ruler for TEN years. After installing these laws, which he did not create, but the people there did, he LEFT Athens, for a span of ten years as it ended up to be... so that he would not have to repeal any of these laws when, I assume, the people of Athens realized they were bad.

So the UN part of UnSolon is my personal statement to not give up on commitments... mind you almost no-one would be able to figure that out besides myself, and thats how I like it.

Myst
November 17th, 2001, 10:23 AM
Myst is one of my magickal names - it symbolizes who I was - ever growing, ever moving, mysterious, etc. People always ask me if it came from the computer game - actually I've played Riven and love Exile but I've never played the first game, Myst. :)

Saeryn
November 17th, 2001, 10:23 AM
Mine is a spelling variation of the old Welsh "seren" which means "star".

It fits me since I have always loved astronomy and I have been a stargazer for as long as I could remember. I enjoy looking at the night sky through my telescope every chance I get.

I can't wait for the meteor shower this weekend! :boing: :D

November 17th, 2001, 10:34 AM
Talamh anEiac is Gaelic for Newfoundland and the word can be traced back as far as a book 400 years ago which talked of Basques witches riding on broomsticks to Talamh an Eiac. Celtic peoples have come here to fish the cod for longer then that. Gaelic was the mother tongue on the south coast of my island until a hundred years ago. It's all part of what makes this place so very special. bb talamh

MammaStar
November 17th, 2001, 10:48 AM
Lady Starlight--is taken from my most favorite Scorpians song. Nothing mysterious about that.

Andromeda
November 17th, 2001, 11:10 AM
In Greek mythology Andromeda was an Ethiopian princess. daughter of King Cepheus, and Cassiopeia. Poseidon sent a sea monster to prey upon the country. Andromeda in sacrifice was chained to a rock by the sea, Perseus saved her, and slayed the sea monster. They were later married.

Andromeda is also a constellation.

But it really has no special meaning to me. Its just the name I chose.

Chibi-Fallon
November 17th, 2001, 11:55 AM
Mine was really luck of the draw. ^^; I've grown more attached to it now, but I got it because I love Jimmy Fallon (from SNL) and some email I was signing up for Fallon was taken so I thought Chibi sounded better then Neo (and I'm short ^^) so it just kinda stuck.

Radocs
November 17th, 2001, 12:35 PM
Radocs is the word "dracos" with the letters mixed around. ^_^

Amethyst Rose
November 17th, 2001, 01:11 PM
Amethyst Rose is my magickal name. It represents everything that I want to be, (amethyst symbolizes things like being sharp, clear-minded, regal, cool-headed, sober, resistant to social pressure, attractive, honest, a warrior, trustworthy friend and poor enemy, and strong psychic abilities) and everything that I am (rose represents romance, passion, strength, endurance, loyalty, purity, friendship....it is soft, and beautiful, but if you're not careful it will hurt you....it protects itself.)

flar7
November 17th, 2001, 03:51 PM
In the land a Yahoo there came a novice. New to the land he was forced to choose a name to be known by. So as not to give his true name, he gave the name of a hero from the sacred text "Dragonriders of Pern".
He submitted his name to the grand vizier of Yahoo, and lo, and behold there was already a flar! Perplexed, he asked the vizier, "Is there a flar2?" to which the vizier answered, "Yes."
"Just how many flars are there?" asked the petitioner novice.
"6" answered the vizier. "Then I will be the 7th!" cried the novice.

and they lived happily ever after.

xjsjaglvr
November 20th, 2001, 07:52 AM
Though I've been told mine looks like a typographical error it breaks down this way;
xjs=a model of Jaguar featuring a V12 engine
jag=Jaguar, obviously the manufacturer of the car
lvr=is lover, as in I love mine
I am an English car fan and have had many over the years, the XJS was the one I always wanted to own. Several years ago my wife gave me one.

Avena
November 20th, 2001, 09:21 AM
Avena is the Latin word for oat. Frantically looking for a screen name I finally opened a Latin book, and here we are!

AradiaSupernova
November 20th, 2001, 01:10 PM
Aradia Supernova is my magick name, though for this I left out the middle name. hehe :) Aradia just kinda stuck to me while I was studying the origins of the gods and goddesses. She's the queen of the witches and I was told to call on her when we need protection. I'm considered the mediator and major protector of my sisters and anyone I care about, so that stuck. Supernova was a brain storm my sister came up with when we were trying to figure out a family magick last name. So there ya have it :)

keelyoherne
November 20th, 2001, 01:39 PM
I took on Keely O'Herne earlier this year as my use-name.

Keely is Irish for grace and beauty. I've loved the name ever since I read book six of the 'Chronicles of the Cheysuli' series by Jennifer Roberson. I believe the title of the book is "Daughter of the Lion" or something like that.

O'Herne is a different spelling of the common O'Hearn or O'Hearne Irish name that I've seen, but that is not why I use it. My patron deity is Cernunnos, aka Herne.

So we have the Grace of Herne. :D He likes it, anyway.

Flar: Dragon Riders GOOD BOOK!!!

As for Storm Chaser... perhaps one of these days i'll settle on ONE magickal name. But I doubt it.

Storm Chaser is just my personality. I seem to go where the wind goes, follow the rains. Disaster Relief in a way, but also a seeker of adventure, and mayhem.

But I can also be a storm, my temper is.. well.. one of a kind as far as i know. Think of all the ways in which storms come and go.. and there you have me when angered. But like all storms.. eventually it does dissapate. I simply cannot hold a grudge to save my life.

Storm Eldon is also one of my favorite book charachters... shes got quite a bit of the Irish temper in her too... hehe

lucidfire
November 20th, 2001, 06:37 PM
lucidfire is this word I sort of came up with after my journey last year. Something my spirit guide told me, it's hard for me to explain past that. It's related to the heart though, in a way. I wrote a poem about it once, a short little one:

I am the attainment of will;
I am the lucid fire, power of youth
Riding the dawn's shadow mirrored sidhe
Lucid as the concious dream, cradled in myth
telling the muse's tale in our familiar song
Wherever you go, wherever you hide,
I am connected to your source

November 20th, 2001, 10:03 PM
Thats interesting. Mato is also the Lakota (Sioux) word for bear.

Flaire-FireStar
November 21st, 2001, 06:57 PM
Hmm.. This one'll be fun to explain! :P

In the rpg chat group I'm in we use 'guardians' of the elements and since there was no fire *coughcough ^-* I took up the challenge using the handle Flaire (as in Solar Flare...although it doesn't look as nice like that).. And anywayz, that's why my signature (if I still have it on there) is Guardian Flaire-FireStar. ^_^;; It's just too annoying to do the whole nick everytime so I use "Flaire" for almost everything now. :)

SingerK

Lunamoth
November 26th, 2001, 05:48 PM
Okay, well, this is the way my name had a sort of backwards evolution. Back years ago, I read a book by Piers Anthony, in which there was a character called Luna (can't remember the title anymore, it was one of the Incarnations Series) and Luna's sister Orb called her "Moth", while Luna called Orb, "Eyeball." Anyway, so, I was using a BBS (the kind you had to dial in to and there was only ONE node <--Lunamoth shows her age) and used the handle of Luna. My friend on the BBS called me "Moth" teasingly because of that book. So, I eventually changed my screen name to "Lunamoth" and it stuck.

Now, years later, this year in fact, I ended up with cancer and the location happened to be in the roof of my mouth (please note that I have never smoked and don't even drink much, so that's not what caused it). So I had to have surgery to remove the tumor and later went through 8 weeks of radiation to kill the microscopic cells. During these times I was unable to eat much. Indeed, during raditation I lost a lot of weight because I was getting less than half of daily recommended calories and most of that was from drinking Ensure.

What has this to do with anything? Well, I found out that lunamoths, a member of the silk moth family, once they have actually become moths, don't have mouths and thus do not eat. thus, the backward evolution of meaning for my name. Wow, I rambled a bit there didn't I.....

Blessings,
Lunamoth

Psyche Ague
November 27th, 2001, 12:58 AM
My favorite goddess is Psyche. I've also taken that name for my "magick name." Ague. Well, it means something close to "trembling or shaking" and since Psyche also means "soul," I thought "trembling soul" would be slightly rad. And it is. And the legend lives on...

(sorry! I'm in a really strange mood tonight...)

AmberLion
November 27th, 2001, 12:10 PM
I have used the name AmberLion for so long it feels more naural to me than the Christian name my parents gave me.

The first part of my name "Amber" is for the Nordic goddess Freyja and her amber necklace Brisingamen. (My ancestry is Norse - Germanic) and the "Lion" is for my power animal, the African Lion.

ooh a name-telling thread!! hehe

Puma Hime.

Ok first off "hime" is NOT any rude, derogatory term, nor is it english. It's Japanese, for "princess" or "lady of noble birth."

Puma is, quite simply, a cougar or mountain lion. But I prefer "Puma." I've had a connection to them for a very long time, and I've always called mountain lions "pumas". . . though I have no CLUE who told me that. It's almost as though my spirit guide told me what to call her, and I called all cougars "puma" hehe ^_^ yes, I know it's a commonly used thing. But I never heard it except for when I said it hehe.

so Puma from my SG, and because I love those creatures, and I've been told I act like one at times. . . and Hime because dangit! I'm a lady of noble birth, no matter what ANY of yas say! ^_~ hehe

(btw, Hime's roughly pronounced "hee may" or "hee meh.")

Mnemosyne
April 3rd, 2002, 01:50 AM
I really like the arts. Although my favorite branch of the arts is history, I feel a connection with all fields. In Greek mythology, the muses are the goddesses for the arts. Since I love all fields, I decided to choose Mnemosyne, the goddess' mother, for my screen name. Also, Mnemosyne is the goddess of memory in Greek mythology, and I think that being touched with a good memory is a special thing to have. Finally, I follow the Greek pantheon, so it was natural for me to choose a Greek name. For those reasons, I chose Mnemosyne as my screen name.

Hmmmmm why did I choose this name and why.... Ahhhh there are a few reasons, First of all someone else very special gave me the nick name, it felt right, it has a great deal of special meaning and memories for me and it does have something to with my finding my way on this path of life this time around and remembering some past paths.

F'lar? I didn't know that you took your name from Dragonriders... (I can be such a doof)

That's kind of where I took mine, except that I interjected a few more vowels into the name of K'ylar. I can't remember who the character was, but the name has stuck with me since I was much younger.

shnen
April 3rd, 2002, 09:18 AM
This might just help some of you SPELL it correctly ;)

One night quite a few years ago (in highschool), I was with a friend in the front of my house laying in the yard staring at the stars and the moon in the sky...
We were just chatting, and one of us (probably me) jumbled one of the words... so with that came the idea to talk without vowels.
Well, not totally, but here's an example of what was said...

lok t th strs in the skii Kri. oh an urplin!
-look at the stars in the sky Kari. Oh an airplane!-

My name is Shannon... so it became Shn-n...
well, no one could get it, or say it, so we changed it to shnen!!!

It's been with me ever since that night on the lawn staring at the sky!

WandererInGray
April 3rd, 2002, 10:08 AM
*ponders* Hmmm...where did this name come from?

:) My first one was much easier. For close to 4 years I've been Honor. That was taken from the David Weber, "Honor Harrington" series.

Circumstances in my life and elsewhere led to a brief change to Kali's Honor when I was "adopted" by the Hindu goddess Kali-Ma.

My current name is a result of a need to be safe (wrapped in a dark gray cloak) and the call of my gypsy blood to wander again.
She's also a character I've been exploring.

Mine is quite simple also. I live in the desert(which I LOVE very much), and everyone says I move like a shadow, in spite of the fact that I am 5'9" tall. I tend to scare the dickens out of them when I walk up because they do not hear me walk down the halls.

Starry Di
April 3rd, 2002, 05:42 PM
Mine is kinda simple as well :$ I like the night alot as well as the sun, but Sun Moon Star Di wouldn't fit (hehe :$), so I just shortened that to Starry, and that is how I got the first part. And the second part comes from my name, Heidi...if you take off the "Hei" you are left with the Di :$ I recently made the discovery, and since I've never really have had a nick name (Besides Heidi-Ho, which I hate , or Heida, which is still similar to Heidi), I sorta nicknamed myself *shrugs*

Topaz is my birthstone, but there was already a Topaz registered here (although s/he hasn't ever posted) so I added another Z. I don't own any Topaz, but Citrine is also my birthstone and I have one that I wear a lot, it is a good grounding stone for me. I just thought Topazz made a better-sounding name than Citrine.

I got curious to see what the properties and history of Topaz are and here is what I found ~ Topaz received its name from Topazios, an island in the Red Sea. Topazios is the Greek word for to guess. The island was almost always covered in fog and hard to find. :T (I am often in a fog myself !)

And this ~ Yellow topaz is another gemstone that is used for protective purposes, specifically against envy, jealousy, intrigue, disease, death, negativity and lunacy. :T :T This is even funnier than the first one because my screen name on Beliefnet was (TA DA) Lunacie.

Zaniah
April 3rd, 2002, 07:27 PM
Zaniah is my magickal name... a year or two after I started practising I was looking through a book of birthdates with a friend (don't recall what the name of it was now). Zaniah is supposedly the name of the star that ruled on the day of my birth. Which fit, because it's hebraic and I've always held a fascination with Hebrew culture and belief (to the point of incorporating it with my practices). Even as a Christian I was far more interested by the Old Testament than the New.
It's also uncommon. I've met only one other Zaniah online, ever. It's held by a male in his 40s. It's pronounced zan-eye-ah.

April 5th, 2002, 07:48 PM
1967 was a year of radical change for me. I was but 9 years n this earth and my mom was with a man who was not my father. He had died 2 years back.

Without warning I was brought to Oregon from South Carolina. Once again I was "the new kid" in school. I was overweight due to GOOD southern cooking so the kids picked up on that very quickly.

Now every kid gets a nickname in grade school, we all know that. The super-model Twiggy had just come into vogue. Kids being kids, I became "Twiggy" the fat kid with the weird accent.

The rest is history.

When do kids start doing that? My four year old granddaughter doesn't care if people are young or old, male or female, black or white, whether they speak English, Spanish or Chinese, whether they are disabled or disinterested. They are all an audience and she introduces herself to everyone. :D

Is it when they start school? Do they learn it from the other kids or from their parents? *sighs* What a shame that they learn it at all.

Saoirse Aiyana is something I put together from two languages whose culture have had quite an impact on my life and who I am. Saoirse is Gaelic for freedom while Aiyana is a Native American word meaning forever flowerin/eternal bloom. I rather liked the conotation of a name that when read together means 'freedom forever flowering.' It expresses my outlook on life and the choices we can make.

awyrdone? Because i'm strange even among the strange. Because I have a a special place in my heart for the Norns. Because things in my life have seemed so fated. I like the numerological dimensions of the name too.

mothwench

i'm mothwench everywhere on the net, and once i did a google search on myself, and found out there is actually another mothwench! on filipino friend finder. ( ) but there can only be one! *strikes the highlander poise*
i chose moth because i love the fluttery little beasties, once when i was little i asked my dad: where did moths used to fly to at night before lightbulbs were invented? and he said: the moon. wicked! at least i thought so at the time, not realising the vast majority of them probably flew into candle flames burning themselves to smithereens.
now to the wench: did you ever see the movie the never-ending story? remember wee little couple? where the wee little man says to the wee little woman: to the winch, wench! and he sits in this basket and she cranks this wheel and then he travels up to the lookout spot where he and the boy can see the sphinx. well, my bf thought it was hilarious, and says "to the winch, wench" to me whenever he possibly can.

well, that's me, sorry about the babble, but starting a thread like this is just asking for it! ;) :smoke:

i don't know....I heard the word Casanova....some dude who was gallantly attentive to women. So i took the nova off and put night on, and then just shortened it to nite. My own word i guess....

it's kinda funny... I was in an art class and the assignment was,'Ifyou were an animal, which one would you be? I didn't kjow, so I asked the instrauctor for jrlpl She gave me a guided visualization abd during this a Wolf appeared anbd approached hwel She stayed and let me pet her, When I finally said that it ws ok for her to leave us in peace and good will, she did leavel
I was so inspiried and intrigued so I did some reading about wolves. I feel a strong bond toward them. It's why I picked the name Rowina.; it means Wolf.

Cresentarm

Oh, this is easy. I have, on my left arm, which is my powerful arm the shape of a cresent moon. It's on the upper part of my fore arm, and when it faces me it is a waning moon. However anyone approaching me will see a waxing moon, hence my screen name, Cresentarm. :floating:
