View Full Version : Ok, so how do you pronounce your name?

LyraDragonStar

I know there are some odd names (MW usernames) out here, and some of them are hard to pronounce. Usually, only the owner knows exactly how it should be said. So, to lessen anymore confusion, how about you tell us how you say your MW name! If you're new, just c'mon in and tell us so we all get it right from the beginning! (That's why I put this here.)

Mines Lyra Dragon Star

You can call me Lyra

I say my name like this: Lie-ruh ...and I'm not going to tell you how to say 'Dragon' or 'Star' because those are some pretty simple words. So put it all together and you have my name! :kooky:

I suppose people may think mine is't simple. It isn't English, so I shall break it down, though I am still bad at translitteration.

ea --- as in the a in apple. It isn't nasal, though.
l --- press your tongue against your top row of teeth and move it straight back while saying the l sound.
a -- as in about but more a and less u in the sound.

'tis Gaeilge for swan. A rather strangely common user-name XD

Pagan Mantis
August 29th, 2005, 08:55 AM
I'm hoping Pagan Mantis is simple enough!

Ziana
August 29th, 2005, 10:05 AM

Cool. I've been thinking it as shan - tee, like a small hut. I was picturing a small fairy house built inside a mushroom that was called a shanty.

I like shawn-tae much better, which syllable is accented?

Mine is pronounced ... loo - nah - see.

Interesting...before last week, I do not ever remember seeing the name Lyra. But last week a new gal intro'd herself to my guild...her name's Lyra. Funny little conincidences.

Oh, and Tzhebee. Tuh (very very soft) zhe (like she, with a z) bee (the letter, or buzzy little bug).

It took a while to find mine. Finally found it in an old dictionary.

It's pronounced PEN-tha-si-LEE-ah.

She was the Amazon Queen who led the Amazons during the Trojan War. They fought on the side of the Trojans and she was killed by Achilles.

This thread is too funny. I love it.

Mine is pronounced "Mmm-oww-ss" with a soft M sound at the begining and an "oww" sound in the middle, kind of like the sound you say after you kick your toe, but before you cuss.

*lopsided grin* I know, I know, I didnt really need to explain. But like elfmage I just didn't wanna be left out!

I've generally heard it pronounced "kir-see", but it's your name you may have heard it differently. I'll try to remember to "hear" it in my head your way when I see it here on MW.
