Would anyone like to share their experiences with Rhiannon?
She has been a dynamic presence in my life, and I was just curious to hear of others 'encounters' with her.

I ask this, because Rhiannon came as such a surprise to me. I had been studying this Trad for quite some time and I had expected any other Goddess except her. She came with such a commanding presence. Not so much demanding, but a force that was so clear, unlike any other.

She made no mistake about revealing herself to me and assisting me, but yet she has a quiet, sort of unassuming way about her.... I guess I was just wondering if anyone else had a remotely similar experience with her.

What tradition are you referring to?

its 5.30am here in the Uk, ive just read a very interesting academic book on her pulling aprt all the strands of the mabinogion to make it all a lot clearer - what it details is very interesting.

ive kind of wanted to get 'into' rhiannon as she originates from my part of the world - west wales/dyfed, but there has always been something causing problems or interfering, since reading this book it has clarified a lot and removed some of my barriers i had up due to problems understanding the rather garbled mythology.

when ive had some sleep i have quite a lot to post

:)

grr... im having a busy couple of days and im off to france for three weeks tomorrow to do some fieldwork.

ive PMed you a link where you can buy a storming book on Rhiannon. it looks into the myths surrounding her and untangles from them other contaminating stories.

the conclusion is that you get back the bare bones of the mythology of her as a horse goddess compariable to Epona or Matrona. you also get the 'correct' version where you find it wasnt the lord of dyfed who fathered he child with her but the lord of the otherworld.

its all explained. its a 50 year old book but its done by a well expeience acholar of welsh liteature.

if you cant get the book, im willing to scan all 118 pages and email you it as a powerpoint presentation - though it will have to wait three weeks or so until im back from france.

if you have a connection with Rhiannon, this book is for you

Lee,
Thanks so much. I got your pm.
I would be very interested in the book.
I myself will be out of comission for a few weeks as we are relocating from New York to North Carolina.
I'd like to hunt down the book after I get settled.
I appreciate your offer to scan it. Wow. That's quite a task, and such a sweet gesture. I think I can track it down, it will be fun trying.

Take care and enjoy your busy time in France.

brightest blessings,

Kari
