Does anyone know of any Celtic or Norse Yule Deities that I could use for my ritual? I'll be my first full one since Lammas since I am at college, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, myths, correspondences, etc. Thanks.
Blessed Be,

I don't think anyone of them is particulary associated with yule. So I guess you could just pick anyone you like :) However what I do know is that when yule was celebrated in sweden, during the viking era, the most common persons to sacrifice to (not human sacrifices but food etc) was Odin, Tor and Frigg. But I am not sure if that is all true, it's just something I remeber from school... :)

there is another real cool link out there on the boards within the last 3 days about yule/christmas and paganism, that had alot to do with the norse.

Odin, Thor and Frej were the most important deities, according to many sources. They were of course celebrated all year ;)

I haven't found anything indicating that the winter solstice was associated with a certain deity, but I might have missed something.

I meant apart from that

(And the above link says Odin and Thor, and they are not special in the way I meant ;))

From my source, the Celtic deity of Yule is Brigit. You open your doors to invite her in and offer ale or cider to her (you also pour some over your Yule log).

What about Balder? Isn't he a god of light as well?

But I'm not really familiar with Norse Yule traditions

BUMP :boing:

Many of you are interested in the Celtic and Norse pantheons. Here are some good suggestions about what gods and goddesses to honor for this particular time of year.
