MM ~ The people stuck in New Orleans STILL DO NOT HAVE FOOD OR WATER.
Harry Connick went there to visit and I saw him live on TV this morning. He said they are not letting the trucks in because it is considered to be "too dangerous" but that no one has given him any trouble and the reports of violence and shooting have been twisted completely out of proportion. He said there is no more shooting in New Orleans than there is in any major US city right now, yet they are not letting the trucks in.
The people are suffering and dying. Old people, sick people, little babies, no sanitation, no medicine, no food, no water.
The astrodome in Houston took in only a fraction of the number of people they promised to take, and then mysteriously declared they couldn't take anymore.
I live 40 miles east of San Antonio and I have not seen anyone from New Orleans, even though there are places here we could put them. I would happily put people in my house if someone would get them here.
When you donate to the Red Cross or any other charity organisations, be sure to ask them these questions. Donate, but make noise.
I lit candles for Huey and Earl K. Long this morning. Say what you will about them, they at least made sure there were benefits for regular common people who didn't have much anything. You don't see that anymore. The president will look out for his own - corporations, conservative christian churches, well-to-do white homeowners who are insured, anyway. The governor of Louisiana is in Baton Rouge and I haven't heard much from him.
In the meantime people are sitting with no drinkable water for five days while the news media plays up the anarchy angle, making people scared to bring anything to them.
Is there a word for irrational fear of black people? Afrophobic? How about ignorant.
Please send energy, light, prayers and money.
And DEMAND that something be done.
BB, Stella
