Have anyone tried to invite a god or goddess to spend a week with them?
Well, I am gonna invite Freja to spend a week with me and I thought it could be rather fun if someone else would want to invite a goddess (anyone you want) and then we could discuss it here :)
So if you are interested but haven't done this before this is how it is done. Choose a god or goddess. Read lots about him/her, on the web, in books etc. Then you simply invite the one you chose. You don't have to have a fancy ritual but creating some sort of sacred space might be a good idea. And of course be nice, ask the god or goddess politly if he or she would like to spend a week (shorter or longer period of time if you like...) and hopefully he or she will accept. During the the days you spend with the god or goddess make lots and lots of notes in your journal. And if you like we could share our experiences here with each other.
Oh, and about choosing the one, when you ask a goddess or god to spend some time with you, that will effect your ordinary life, I mean if you pick Kali or Brigid, they will have different effect in your life...
So is anyone up to it?
Blessings

I have a book that also encourages to "invite" one deity per week. Pretty interesting, with lots of beautiful pictures! Never used the book and its rituals though.
Maybe I should try now... But I'm afraid I couldn't decide which deity to invite...

Namaste,
a wonderful idea. Though I am living with my deities and entities like that on a daily bases. Especially my Matrons/Patrons share a whoile lot of my life time with me.
i can only encourage you to do so. Itzs worth it. Just THINK well befoire inviting. Good studies in advance will prevent you from bad surprises ;)

Interesting idea! I'm still looking for a matron/patron deity so I might try that. But like Avena said, it'll be hard to decide which deity to invite.

I guess you could start with any god or goddess you like. It doesn't really matter, and since a year has got 52 weeks there will be plenty of time to invite other gods or goddesses as well :)

However, Hecate has only just left, and she keeps popping back because she forgot something.
Frankly, I'd just like a week on my own!!!
I might invite Pan over while I'm off work over Christmas...

Hello, this is my first post, and being a neophyte, I've alot of learning to do!
This sounds like something to try, I'm studying about Bridgit, maybe I'll try her, and I'll let you know how it's going.

What a great idea! I invited Brigit to stay the week with me first, and sice it will only be a week i think its a great way to discover the true natures of deities! Im anxious to see what happens, we should all keep each other updated with our experiences!

I invited Jupiter (and also the earth mother) to hang with me for a week ^_^ they usually are close but I decided to do a specific invitation thingie. Hehe mentioned that earlier.
Well, today my feet were killing me, as I took off my shoes and walked to my mom's home barefoot. Now, the shortcut to my mom's house is through a park, down a street, and through a gated walkway (there used to not be a gate -_-; ). Usually now, the gate is closed and locked. I walked up to the first gate, the wooden one (there's two different gated ways) and it was locked, and I was like "*sigh*" ok. . . I don't want to walk down the alley. . . I'll check the other gate." and I had this funny feeling like I had better not just walk past it. So I walked into view of it.
lo and behold, this almost NEVER opened gate was just hanging slightly adjar. . . just enough for me to be able to see that it was open, but not obvious. and I just had this feeling like someone was GRINNING. ^___^
and I was like "*smile* you did this, huh? Thank you!" to whomever might be listening. And out of the blue a leaf on the ground in front of me kinda jumped. There was no wind. There were leaves around it that didn't move. And I swear I felt the biggest grin from Jupiter, and a soft smile from the mother. . . sort of like a "you're most welcome *happy laugh*" ^__^ I walked home and it was so nice an experience though that I had to share! hehe

I invite Eris over three times a year, and spend the rest of the time trying to kick her out.

I think this is a lovely idea. It encorages research and it's a good way to get more in touch with who you are, and who you work best with, deity wise.
I'd invite either Nyx, or Rhea...no one else seems to want to hang around! ;)

Oh boy this is the most fun ever! Thanks for the grand idea Emy. After I invited Bridgit, things began to heat up around here.(ha ha). My firewood, which wasn't supposed to come until after jan 1st was delivered yesterday (just in time it's getting cold here) and I've done more open, wildly, loopy poetry this past few days than I've done in three months. The wierd thing is I'd planned to start my studies about the goddess (hadn't done it yet, I was too busy playing with words) so last night i tucked in for a good goddess discovery program and found out about her love of artists and ability to control the elements, I had had some vague idea that she was a goddess of the hearth, but didn't really know her other passions. I think Bridgit's presence has caused a warming trend. KissMeI'mIrish, has this been happening for you too? hugs to all, otter

Well I spent a little over a week with Freya. I made small circle and lit some candles and grounded myself and asked if she would like to spend some time with me. I meditated, I immediatly felt she was there. Well it was an interesting week, I got really interested in cats (I know she is a cat goddess, but had never associated her that much with cats before). I also felt really pretty, I guess that is because she is a goddess of beuty, and I also felt very loved and loving... :)
I thought a lot about babies too, it had to be Freya that influenced me, I mean I have always loved babies, and there is nothing I want more than a baby but since I am still studying I am gonna wait until I have finished school and have a job. But this week, I have been really, really thinking about babies, everywhere I turn there have been little babies, and mothers to be. :) It had to have been Freya who have pointed that out to me! She is a fertility goddess...
She has also tested me some, let me walk in ice cold rain, getting soaked. But I felt strong. :) I knew she was there testing me some... :)
Another thing that struck me was that I wasn't at all interested in food, didn't eat a single bit of candy those days, which is rather weird for me, since I love candy! And I wasn't all that hungry... of course I ate, but I didn't get as hungry as I usually do.
When the week had passed, I thanked her for what she had tought me.
Well, that is pretty much it of my week with Freya. I know she is always around now, somewhere near if I need her. :)
I think I am gonna call on Aradia next :)
