When performing rituals, do you incorporate music? If so, is it popular or more religious? What artists do you prefer?

I use a bit of both depending upon the ritual and of course the song. I like mixing my passion for music with my passion for magic. The way that I see it is that the Divine have given me something so amazing that changes my life with every note, why not share that with them. I think also that it is a good way of combining my energies (or the energies that the music awakens) with the ritual itself. Sometimes I just find a song that makes my very spirit move, and that's something helpful in rituals. What do you think?

I think that's a grand idea! I myself have never incorporated music into anything I've done, but I'm certainly considering it now. I have a few Beethoven and Vivaldi CDs which would probably work quite nicely.

Yeah, I like having some background music just to set the mood, and classical is definetely good.

OHHHHH--In my more showy rituals, like Samhain, music help sets the mood. (You have to remember I ususally have about 30+ people attending -minus the fire dept)

But even when I use it in esbats, I always use pagan artists--Wendy Rule--is my favorite for SAmhain. Although I've used Incubus Succubus, as well, and other. Or we sing pagan chants.

I love music in ritual

Lately, Collide (mostly 'Halo' and 'Ocean'). Occasionally bits from various Final Fantasy soundtracks.

Yeah, I use a lot of artists that could probably be termed pagan. My favorites are probaby a cd called Dreamcatcher (the artist esapes me), Mideaval Baebes (sp?) and one called something like Stars 2000 (I think). But I also try to incorporate more "secular" music too. Tori Amos for example has great haunting melodies, and Jethro Tull is very pagan with his "Songs from the Wood" album. The Angel soundtrack (the Buffy spinoff show) is really good, and of course I try to integrate some of my favorite bands like Hanson. They do this one really beautiful love song that I used for this past Beltane, and it set the mood perfectly.

the rituals i go to are reclaiming tradition and they always love to sing and chant and dance during ritual. its a great way to trance out and raise a cone of power with a group. i am also part of a goddess chanting circle and our voices are our primary tools of our rituals. we tone thru the chakras, we chant and sing pagan songs. singing in ritual is fantastic. i highly recommend it!

Yes, I have used some instrumental pieces and also drumming. It really varies by the type of ritual for me. Sometimes there are sacred dances performed as well, music or a rythmn really aides in this aspect as well.
