I am about to start home-schooling my 5 year old daughter(like tomorrow, yah. I know I could have thought of this sooner) and as I was looking throught the teacher's guide they give a sample schedule (as in: open with a discussion then off to math, etc...) well they also suggest opening with a salute to the flag or a prayer or something of that nature. the curriculum is secular but being a practicing witch, I'd like to try and find a prayer or dedication or a way of saying thanks to use at the beginning of our lessons.
My daughter loves to go to (and participate) in rituals and spells , so I think she'd really dig this.
Mostly my problem is that I'm having trouble finding something that is a general prayer.
I've found things for events, meal times, life changes and whatnot. (and quite honsestly, I'm too fried at the moment to craft something of my own) So I was wondering if anyone out there has a little something they can suggest.
If so, I'd REALLY appreciate it.
thanks and blessings all

I was going to suggest you write one. but if you are feeling fried right now let me offer you this:

Thankyou Goddess for the day
Thankyou for the education I receive
Goddess grant my mind be clear and my teacher I will hear.

Close it as you do in your own way.

Good luck hun. I admire mothers who are home schooling.

I'd like to see if anyone else out there has any ideas?
Dragonsinger gave me a wonderful piece (thank you!) and I'm interested if there are any others out there with something they'd like to share.
thanks :tarotwitc

Well... I like rhymes... and your daughter is of an age where she probably does too....

Lord and Lady, as I grow
help me learn what I should know
help me hear and see and learn
no teacher or lesson to spurn

I have a couple fo children's prayers that I like.

"The Being, the Doing and Having that make
All the pleasures and pains of which mortals partake.
To be what Goddess pleases, to do a child's best
And to have a good heart, is the way to be blessed."

" Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world.
Hear me. I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands repsect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.
Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame."

"Work a little, sing a little,
Whistle and be gay;
Read a little, play a little,
Busy every day;
Talk a little, laught a little,
Don't forget to pray;
Be a bit of merry sunshine
All the blessed way."

"To do to others as I would
That they would do to me,
Will make me gentle, kind and good,
As children ought to be."

"For rosy apples, juicy plums,
And yellow pears so sweet,
For hips and haws on bush and hedge,
And flowers at our feet,
For ears of corn all ripe and dry,
And coloured leaves on trees,
We thank you, Blessed Goddess,
For such gifts as these."

Good fortune with your home schooling efforts.
