Before I left Mystic Wicks for the night to finish cooking dinner I wanted to ask those of you who cook a question.

I have this thick metal/iron pot with lid that has been in my family for as long as I can remember!
It was my great grandmas, my grandmas, and my mothers before she passed away. It holds well over a gallon of liquid.
It is magick! Well....to me it is! I have never messed up a meal in this pot. Anything I have ever cooked in this pot has come out excellent!!! (and I am not a great cook)
Tonight I just got through throwing in a few more ingredients and have made a full pot of chili:cool:

Do you have any cooking utensils/pots that you favor in your kitchen?

Ah yes...There's plenty of chili for everyone so bring your own bowls!_travolta_

Got my bowl at the ready and am standing by for some chilli, Sowelu! :boing:

I work & live in a pub, behind the bar and in the kitchen - I've always had my favourite matching pie dish, oven glove and apron set!! They all say "silly moo" on them & have a picture of a dancing cow! From the first time I looked at them, I couldn't stop laughing!!

Love & Light,
Autumn

i would be lost without my electric frying pan.. i use it everynight.. i don't think there is anything i couldn't make in it as far as meals go.. other then that my favorite pot would have to be a mustard colored enamel soup pot with flowers around the sides.. it was my moms favorite pot and when she died it went to me.. its probably as old as me if not older looks like something from the 70's lol.. maybe its the memories attached to it for me but soup always tastes better when its made in that pot.. even canned soup tasted better done in it..

I love my crockpot! Don't our moms have the best cookware? There is a large pot that my mom has that I want (she's not willing to part with it yet). It's big and heavy and perfect for making anything- from chili to candy. Everything always tastes better when it comes out of that pot.

I got obsessed with cast iron cookware a couple of years ago after I bought a deep cast iron frying pan for frying chicken in. When I started talking about how much I wanted more old cast iron my mom gave me this 12 inch skillet that is older than I am. Its so well seasoned that a quick clean up as soon as I'm done with it and its ready. I cook perfect steakhouse quality rib eyes in it and salmon fritters just like my grandma. I've never messed up a meal in it yet. I love my old cast iron skillet. I'm trying to talk my grandma into letting me have her "cornbread" griddle now that she doesn't use it anymore(her hands are so arthritic that she can't handle heavy cast iron anymore). Her griddle was her grandmother's so its close to/if not 100 years old and very well seasoned nothing sticks to it.

I have a cast iron skillet that's been handed down thru the years. I can't cook without it. Also a cast iron soup pot that makes the best chili ever. Then there's my wooden spoon that's also been handed down...

My favorite thing in the kitchen is my Grandmothers tea pot, its old, bit chipped but the tea tastes great.
The other thing that my dogs and I really love is the iron range, in winter we all fight for space around it, when I die I am seriously considering being buried in it.

I would say my favorite items are these: cast iron skillets. They are great for holding in the heat, and you can throw them on the outdoor grill and blacken food outside so that the smoke doesn't fill up your kitchen. Knives. I have a large number of nice knives of all sorts. Kinda fanatical about them.

The last is not really cooking, but it is a beverage tool. I collect glass swizzle sticks. I have dozens and dozens of sets of them. I have them on display in my kitchen, and they always are conversation starters.

I inherited my late mother-in -law's pots, with lots of wonderful cast iron and also stainless cookware.
I love them all, but my absolute favorite is an old wok. I can cook everything in that wok- it is the perfect size, and I use it for soups, stews, oatmeal, well EVERYTHING you can imagine. It makes a perfect shrimp scampi or cioppino everytime. I get the feeling my mother-in-law watches over me when I use this pot, which is a good thing because she was an absolute genius in the kitchen. :)

My pots came from a restaurant supply store so they're not fancy or anything - but out of all of them I love my high sided skillet, you can pretty much cook anything in it. I also love my crock pot and my old cast iron fry pan. I didn't 'inherit' it so to speak, but someone had left it in an apartment I moved into about 14 years ago and it was clearly very old. I cleaned it, re-seasoned it and it's awesome to use.

My favorite is the cast-iron griddle I inherited from my ex's gramma. I was just getting ready to give it to my ex (her grandson) following our divorce but then he had a heart attack and died. So I got to keep it ! Someday I will pass it on down to my daughter and she can pass it on to one of her daughters.

Oh, yeah, I also enjoy my George Foreman type electic grill. It's great for fixing steaks and burgers and it's wonderful for making Panini type sandwiches.

Seeing the post on wooden spoons, I have to add that I have 2 of those hard plastic/silicone spoons and they are the best! They're heat safe up to 500 deg. and they don't absorb food flavors - I've got to get a few more in different colors.
