Does anyone else just KEEP getting static electricity shocks, off metal, especially stairs, escalators, because recently, I do. I was coming down the stairs in a bookshop, and got such a shock off the rail that I was surprised my hair wasn't sticking straight up. I'm just wondering if it could have anything to do with me practising magick and meditation as it has only started happening recently.

It could be just this time of year. The air is drier and the buildings are being heated with electrical heating. You can try spraying an herbal water over your hair & see if that helps.

Hello Phoenixsong. Ah yes. There's nothing like shuffling across the carpet and having your teeth knocked out by a static charge when you grab the door knob. It's cool and dry down here in S.E. Texas and I'm having the same trouble. It's totally a natural phenomenon and not related to your path or any magick. If you wear a ring or bracelet, try touching them to a metal object from time to time to keep yourself discharged. The ring or bracelet will spread the discharge over a larger area so you dont feel it.

Its ALWAYS wet here, so no matter what time of year it is, you dont get shocked too much. I think I remember getting static shocked twice in the last year.

But hey....

There's a product out here in the US called Static Guard. I used it once, but the smell was a little much for me (very sensitive to fragrances). I also don't like using aerosol products...

But maybe you can find something similar at the market that would help. I use water with some lavender oil mixed in. It does the trick, but doesn't hold up all day. Just try wearing stockings under a rayon skirt! THe darn thing sticks right to me!

I find that I have a pair of shoes or two....that when I wear them this time of year, I get the worst shock of my life....OFF MY CAR!! (the shoes <boots> have those hard rubber soles....ick!) Not saying that they are the only reason....because I do have a couple outfits that are very static prone also. My work environment if VERY dry also....so that doesn't help any....and this time of year, if I run a comb through my hair at work.....it remindes me of a round hairbrush....in every direction! ....and I have pretty long hair!

I've also noticed that since I've started walking the Magical path....it's worse than when it was when I was a kid. Maybe it's because I don't hug and climb trees as much as I used to.....<pondering>....

I can't wear watches....the batteries last from 1-3 days tops. My lightbulbs seem to be blowing all the time....just one little inconvenience after another.

All of this is just some of the things I've come to deal with. <sigh>

I can't take the smell of that stuff either....but I keep a can of it at work.....just incase I have a day that I just can't take the static anymore! lol I ususally end up spraying down my chair though. (it has to roll across carpet)

I have found that walking lighter on your feet seems to help with this problem.

rings do also. copper in your shoe or ankle seems to help too.

Yeah this has been happening to me too. >.< It's so annoying batteries are so expensive. Which reminds me I need to go by batteries for the family my choir is helping out for Christmas (it's so sad they all asked for socks, all 10 of them).

I rarely ever suffer from static shock. The only consistent occurance is when I close my car door and that's been happening for years, long before I started practicing magick.

Mostly all a natural phenomenon. When I’m in a static environment I can shock someone to the point where they will say Ouch, but that is just natural. HOWEVER I have heard talk of someone purposely drawing higher amounts of static electricity in their bodies (somehow?) and throwing the charge through t needles for the purpose of acupuncture.

Even stranger I heard there is video footage of a guy that practices some sort of meditation or something to generate and amplify static electrify to the point of being able to throw a piece of paper on the ground and zap it from 3 feet away and have it burst into flames….. Sounds far out, but we all can drag our feet on carpet and zap someone or a metal object and see a spark, so maybe it’s possible someone found a way to amplify it and make that phenomenon more extreme……..

I used to get shocked all the time.. And it wasn't summer. I am just bound to get shocked. And if you wear fleece...~shudder~. Now I don't, though. No clue why. The jewelry sounds like a good idea. You could also keep a fabric softener sheet with you and see if that helps.^^

OR you could have electrical superpowers, which would be much cooler.

So... Why buy them batteries? Wouldn't... um...SOCKS be more to their likeing?

sorry I couldnt help my self.

I would get shocked all the time back home during the fall and winter.

i get shocks all year round..especially supermarket trolley/cart handles.....door knobs....my dads car..the bus....my household appliances and plugs..which have been checked and rechecked!!

i too have a problem..i drive vcrs and anything afected by magnetic energy..ie my bank card!! vcr tapes..watches....ooh and my poor cat..you thought it was the proverbial witches cat with blue sparks from their whiskers..nope..mine does!!

Just a theory..i am epileptic and seeing as the seizures are a result of electrical discharge in the brain..somes gotta get around the body as a build up...or i have a magnetic personality..lol

In my experience..the battery drain and exploding light bulb phenomena are a result of some spiritual prescence.....we have a little spirit girl and boy who were deeply unhappy at the old house..i had lightbulbs melt!
Theyre happier here....but when i havent been listening they make themselves noticed..even in front of guests! Funny thing is i cant say if its a result of magic practises or not...its been a thing ive grown up with as have my kids!

I'm prone to static shocks too. It tends to stop during the summer, but once the weather gets colder, I start getting zapped. (I think it happens most frequently in the "tralsition seasons" - spring and fall.) I also tend to get stronger static shocks than most people - they're sometimes audible to people near me, and will sometimes make my finger, or whatever part of me got zapped, ache for a couple of minutes. And when people touch me during one of the seasons when I'm more shock-prone, we'll often both get a painful shock. What I do is temporarily take off one of my shoes before I touch something that will zap me (hmm, this is probably why I don't tend to get zapped in the house - I never wear shoes in the house), so that one of my feet is touching the ground while I touch it, but this obviously isn't practical every time.

I got a static shock from a potted plant once. That was weird. Also, I once got zapped from the stream of water coming from the faucet. Luckily, these both have only happened once. If I got zapped from the faucet every time, that definitely wouldn't be fun...

There also used to be a certain sidewalk I would walk down a couple of times a week, because it was the way to and from a class I was taking. On my way back, it would be dark, and so the streetlamps next to the sidewalk would be on. For awhile, every time I walked down that sidewalk a streetlamp would go out as I walked under it. It wasn't always the same one, either. I have other mild effects on electronic devices, too, though it used to happen more frequently. I used to have a watch that kept stopping and starting again. It would stop, and I'd think it was dead, and then I'd happen to look at it again and it would be going again. Or I wouldn't even notice that it had stopped, but next time I looked at it the time would be a few hours behind. The MP3 player I used to have went insane - I'd be listening to a song, and all of a sudden it would start blasting at top volume (making me jump out of my skin :headphone :hairraise ). My computer volume used to change depending on my mood - when I was in a bad mood, the volume would be really low, and I'd have to turn it up ridiculously high to get it to sound normal. And I don't know if this is my fault or just coincidence, but my boyfriend's cell phone keeps having a problem where it sometimes doesn't ring when somebody calls, and doesn't even register the call. He got a new phone (for an unrelated reason), and it still happens. The other members of his family have the same kind of phone, and they don't have this problem. (I don't think he's doing it. He doesn't tend to affect electronic stuff like I do - he fixes computers for a living, so he better not!) Apparently these things, especially the streetlamp thing, happen to plenty of people (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=%22street+lamp+interference%22).

I don't know what causes it, but I do have a pretty weird energy system. I did something on a numerology message board that said that people who had 11's as important numbers in their numerology chart often affected electronic stuff like this. I don't know if this is true or not, but you can go here:
http://www.sun-angel.com/numerology/report_free_name.php (http://www.sun-angel.com/numerology/report_free_name.php)
and here:
http://www.sun-angel.com/numerology/report_free_date.php (http://www.sun-angel.com/numerology/report_free_date.php) (this is the one that's an 11 for me)
and see if either of those two numbers is an 11. If you do have an 11 and also have things like this happen, let me know - I'm curious as to whether the theory has any merit to it.
