I've had tarot readings before, and almost all of them have been surprisingly accurate.
My question is:
When a person does a *relationship* tarot reading (or a reading about two people) how do they manage to be so accurate? Like, for example, sometimes I ask about guys. I give them the name, birthdate, etc. but think of how many people share that same birthday/name etc. How do you know that you are getting the "right" person?
I know the question is very confusing, but hopefully someone can explain it to me...

well Ive never done a reading but I think its like a connection, the Diviner (person doing the reading) is talking to the questionair (you) and through that the to subconciously work toward the same goal of knowing, and the person in the relationship, although he/she dosent know the one doing the reading, knows the person who ask it , its all connected and part of the subconsious and there for they all three form a bond that they may or may not be aware of, at least thats what it seems to be like, i may be wrong though, im curious to know what other awnsers come up, so anyway i hope that makes sense

well, i don't use birthdates for readings, although people have given them to me anyways, i think it helps connect to the person, its a bit of personal information... sort of like when a search and rescue team is looking for somebody, so they let the dogs smell an article of clothing or whatever... i hope that made sense...

Accuracy is your question?
I have a question. Are the cards accurate,
or, are you accurately modifying your aspects to the cards?

Thanks everyone for the responses!
Veritas: I suppose it can be a little of both. Sometimes the cards can surprise you.

This is sort of 2 questions so I've broken them up. You manage to be accurate in a reading with practice. You learn the meanings of the cards, you learn to use your intuition. You learn to combine those 2 factors to do an accurate reading. If you have a client in front of you, you can also do a bit of "cold-reading" by noticing their reactions to your interpretations of a card.
Like, for example, sometimes I ask about guys. I give them the name, birthdate, etc. but think of how many people share that same birthday/name etc. How do you know that you are getting the "right" person?
You know that you are getting the right person because you and your client are focusing on the right person. You are not only concerned with the name and birthdate, but with the fact that THIS is the person that your client is interested in knowing more about, not some other John Doe born-on-the-same-day half a country away.
There is more to a person than their name and birthdate. When you describe a guy to your friends, you don't only tell them "His name is John Doe and he was born on December 12, 1982". You are telling them that he's cute, funny, sincere, a jerk, or whatever. The client is focusing on that, and therefore, so are you. Whether the client tells you those things or not, they are still thinking them, and it will affect the outcome of the cards if they are concentrating clearly.
If you are looking at it from a more mystical point of view, you can say that you are trusting the God/dess, Universe, Spirit Guides, etc. to guide you.
If you're not so mystical, you realize that the cards are laid out and it's up to you to interpret them. You mention the things that pop into your head, you mention the things you notice in the card images. In a sense, you are trusting to the Universe / Cards to be right, but you are also very trusting of yourself to be right.
If you're asking why tarot works, then you are asking a question that no-one, at least to my knowledge, has ever answered. But for those of us who read, it's not so important HOW the tarot works, we just know that it does. http://67.15.36.42/mw/images/smilies/smile.gif
