I have an informative speech to give to my speech class, and I want to inform the audience about grounding/centering/meditating and in order to get my audience involved and actually interested I was hoping to have them acually do the meditation/grounding/centering/ while I actually teach them how to do it. Does anyone know of a *short* one? My speech can only be a max of 6 minutes... Or, if you all have ideas of maybe something different I should/could do I would appreciate ideas ^_^ :dancy:

Start off a little about what what some of the benefits of meditation are. Without going into too much detail about that, start going into actually what poistions are good for meditation, any special aromas or atmospheres that can help. Then go into the breathing exercises or mantras that do the actual grounding.
Thats the shortest i can think of lol hope it helps!

I'd have them imagine their feet as roots digging into the earth and their head (or arms stretched upward) as merging with the sky and balancing out the Earth and Sky energies within themselves. Or, simply have them pull a ball of energy into the solar plexus and let it grow, vibrantly shining outward. (?)

If you don't mind looking like an idiot (or finding somewhere private to go!), this is what I do before I say a prayer:
Standing, arms at your side. Bring your arms up out to the sides, up above your head, taking in a breath. At the peak, begin to let out your breath, bringing your hands in to meet like a "steeple", classic statue praying shape, in front of yourself (around your heart). It's all one fluid motion. Hold your hands there, focusing inward. Hold position until you're as focused as you want / have finished your prayer/meditation.
Seems to focus/ground/center me like all heck. Instant access prayer system. :p

I was taught to ground quickly by touching earth, walking barefoot on wooden floor or ground (weather permitting) and meditating for a while (I name it "cosmic sandwich method" :D): on how is it to be exactly between the Heaven and the Earth - the ground below, the air above, and you in the middle. It's really hard to explain in words, so bear with me :) Good luck with your speech!

Quick grounding....grab a handful of salt packets (like the kind that you see at fast food restaurants) and empty the contents of them under your tongue. Tastes horrible, but works wonders.

This is one that I like. You touch your hands in front then swing them around about waist high and touch them behind your back. Keep repeating the movement while saying "I am in the light and of the light. I am the awakened consciousness. I feel no evil, nothing can get in, no one can. All is well." Feeding the birds and weeding a flower garden or tending some house plants work well too as well as eating something of the earth - like an apple.

What I've noticed is that basically any physical motion tends to help focus your mental self. Arm movement, dance, chanting, even fingering a string of prayer beads can really help draw your mind in. I think the key is to use the same thing each time - you will come to associate that motion or sensation (arm movements, bead texture, chant melody or pattern) with falling inward and focusing.
Repetition is really the key.

Well... being something of a hippie... my favorite method for insta ground, for when i'm upset or having issues, or people just starting and having issues with the normal visualization techniques...
HUG A TREE!!!! :D
Most of the visualization ones don't take long though....
OH... and it's not quick... but Yoga is one of the best things that i've found which combines meditation and grounding.... and it works for the severely adhd! :P

A great way to keep me centered is a breathing technique that I teach called 4-3-4. You breathe in for a count of four-hold for a count of 3-and exhale for a count of four. This slowed breathing help shift your consciousness- and its really simple to teach.
However, suggest that those with breathing difficuties try 2-3-2 instead. (learned that one by mistake)

simply have them pull a ball of energy into the solar plexus and let it grow, vibrantly shining outward.
That's one of the techniques I use. The quickest I know to center:
stand upright
breath in deeply
clap your hands
from that reverberation imagine a ball of energy starting to grow
slowly bring your hands apart, drawing more and more universal energy into the ball
when the ball is big enough, let it float into your body
let yourself soak in built-up energy
start shining the energy outward
