hello everybody, its EarthWitch back with a question!
I've been doing some more reading, and realised that almost none of the books I've read have mentioned praying.So....
do Witches pray?Because I've been praying for ages and now I'm wondering-is this Wicca or am i doing something wrong?I know there are not many "wrongs" in WitchCraft but... And am I the only one who prays(to the Goddess and God)?....
Please help, and thanks in advance!!

I'm pretty sure you're not alone. I do it so I have some sort of contact with Them since I have little time or space for more elaborate ritual-type stuffs.

I also pray. I cant see how it is wrong. All prayer is, is a few moments to connect on a personal and spiritual level with your deities. At times of strees ,I pray for stength (or strength for someone else) at times of joy ,I pray to give them thanks. I dont know why the books don't say much about it, but I think it is a personal choice.

Ya see there are alot of bad feelings about those horrible times when we were forced to pray to a god we didnt believe in (at school, games, home, work, and other shared spaces) that we dont shout our prayers from the street corners, we do it quietly and in our own way. Praying is a very individual thing, silent and loud at the same time (and they can get loud!), singing and expression are also our prayers, it isnt about the words it is about the feelings (gag) and emotional stuff that is behind them... We dont like to be told how to pray, so no one writes about it, although it would be an interesting book... or a boring one... Now there are some formalized prayers that some people use like the isisian morning prayer or thanking your dinner prayers, and stuff like that but they tend to take the form of ritual.
But sense it is not our main means of getting things done (we do things ourselves) it isnt as important as in other paths... Poetry and stuff like that tend to form the basis for our devotional prayers, it manifests itself in many ways you just have too look for them...
And speaking of praying (slips stormyray a houndred) can you make sure I am on the right list this year...

I don't see anything wrong with it. I too, "pray" to the Goddess & God during times of stress or help is needed. Not everything I do is a formal ritual. At the moment, I don't have the space to keep a formal altar or anything, so I try to "talk" to Rhiannon & Cernnunous at least everyday. Even if it's just to say hi and bless my day. :D

I pray too. It helps me. I feel like I'm more in-tune with our Mother that way.

I like to call it "petitioning" or simply meditating. Yeah, I think it has to do with those ill feelings that others have mentioned over that "praying to someone else's god" thing. But, ye, I do it most days. Heck, just making a wish on a birthday candle is like a little prayer...:)

I don't like to call it prayer, once again that whole forced thing, but I talk to the goddess all the time! I don't think I could get through a week without doing it! lol

I pray also. I think it's an automatic reaction to times of high emotions. I'm sure our thoughts and feelings affect reality, so I use prayer as a simple, quick spell when needed, or just to thank my God/Goddess when I feel a moment of graditude. The word may be uncomfortable because of its Christian connatations, but I think prayer can be a communication with any Deity and not just the Ones from the major faiths.

Make it a day, and you got it. :D
I talk to the Goddess every morning and night- even if just to say Hi and thanks for keeping me in your blessings. Other times, it is a bit more formal and detailed. And then there are the little converstations I have with Her all day.... Help me keep my patience with my kids, help me to pull out if this street without hitting anybody, thanks for showing me the beauty of this fall day...
I like to talk and the Lady gets a lot of it. I hope she doesn';t mind!8O :bubbles:

I pray just about everyday. To who? I guess that's personal. Alot of people pray and don't even realize it.

I guess we must talk her leg off then cause I talk to her everyday, not formalized or anything (except when I am praising her for creating chocalate! which I use as a sacriment(sp), some people have cakes and ale, I have chocalate and coffee :p) Just thanking her for the little things that she lets herself be felt through, I dont call it praying cause well it's not what I was taught praying was. I still think praying is the whole kneel and try not to offend an angry god. I take the stand that my knees are for standing and that I will stand before my dieties, creatress and elements not be ashamed of anything that I do and not ask for forgiveness as life is meant to be a learning experiance.

I never refrain from doing anything because of the way it's been misused in the past.
I pray. Daily. To whoever's listening sometimes, to God, sometimes to my matron.

Mato, I agree with you- there cant be a point of being ashamed for what youve done in life because the Goddess has seen it all anyway and sorry but, begging forgivness?*quotes Selma from the Simpsons* Oh Please!I wasnt brought up as Christian or anything so i dont have any qualms about calling it Prayer, and by the way everyone, you've been really helpful-thanx!!
