Assignment
Using things around the house create an altar to help balance this chakra. Remember the correspondences. Use red pieces, and crystals if you have them handy, otherwise pieces of clothing, towels, scarves, pictures, candles all have a place one the alter. Use whatever reminds you of the areas that we are working on in this lesson. Some things to consider are things that make you feel safe, insecure, abundant, lacking. This might not take the form of a typical ritual setup, and that is OK. We are using this altar as a focus point during meditation to balance this chakra. You may want to use just a little TV tray, night stand or patio table for this. We will be using this set for the duration of the study of this chakra, and you may not want to set it up each time. This will also allow you to stop on the way by and just do a quick visualization exercise.
Now that you have put the altar together, it is time to do a quick meditation. Relax and quiet your mind. Follow your breath as it flow in and out of your nose, feel the movement against your skin… Feel the rise and fall of your chest and solar plexus… Feel the pull of gravity locking you to the Earth… Now visualize the chakra spinning… Chant LAM as you watch the chakra spin… Feel its rhythmic turning… See the red spread through your lower belly into your intestines…. Feel them heal any aches and pains you may have in the area…..
Perform this exercise once per day in the beginning of your day. Share your experience here if you don’t mind doing so.

This sounds as if it is a good idea and I will enjoy taking the time to do the exercise. RELAX- with six children, it is hard to find a moment in the day to do that.

BB,
I can well imagine that it is difficult with six. Just remember, they are young for such a short period and you will miss that when they are gone. However, grandchildren are also wonderful and great fun, hehhehe, and you will have loads of them.
The exercise is a good one for setting up in your bedroom, so as you pass after a shower, or on your way to bed, you can do a quick meditation. It will certainly help you relax and have a better nights sleep.

Oooh, I love making altars. I can't wait to start. The Root chakra is my most blocked off all. I'll have to pay extra close attention to this section

Darkraven,
This type of energy work is very nondenominational. I happen to be offering this class on a pagan website, however, many Christians work with their chakras. Just tell them you are meditating and need a focal point, which is exactly what you are doing. Tell them you are trying to improve your self-esteem, and you think that this meditation will help. I'm confident that they will find this activity to their liking. Try printing the exercise and let them read it, that should give them lots of confidence that you are doing something they can approve of. If they say no way should you do this, then you should obey their wishes.

Can you share it with us, and if so, do you mind doing so? I'd love to see yours. I will share mine if anyone is interested.

Here's a pic of my altar. Its been up for a while, but I'm just now getting around to posting a pic of it:

The pictures represent abundance to me, in the lower one DH and I are working at our community garden plot. In the upper one, DH is standing in his tall prairie garden.
Meditating before the altar makes me feel especially grounded and secure in my spiritual and material life.

Oh I love yours yavanna!
Mine is much simpler but between two businesses and a very ill Granny:( I thought it was better to keep mine simple. I still feel so very tense of late. I am working on it though!

very nice, I like the coins on there, very appropriate for this chakra. I would think this would give you a great focus point.

It was hard to make an altar space in my small dorm but I managed. :D I just added on to my Kemetic shrine already set up. I have some pictures of pets, friends and family added to the pics of my matron and patron dieties because they all make me feel grounded and safe. When I go home next weekend I hope to get some red cloth and bring back some of my garnets to add to it.
I did the excercise and the first thing I felt was the feeling of being pulled down to the earth. It was very calming and relaxing. I'm going to make it part of my morning ritual.

I'm going to do this meditation momentarily! My question is, I already have an alter set up, with my tarot cards on it. I'm using the Dragon's Tarot, which is red, does that count, or should I find another item, such as a stone?

I don't think it matters what you put there, as long as it reminds you the issue at hand. I certainly wouldn't "run out" and get anything, and what ever you want on that altar is appropriate. Hope the meditation goes well for you.

Here is the altar that I made in a corner of my bedroom. It is the last thing I see at night and the first in the morning. I love it.

Oh Akeyla, that is beautiful. I love the use of the mat and the yin/yang spheres. Good work there. Having it in your room is great, it is a good reminder. It also reminds you to do your meditations. Meditation is wonderful before bed, as it helps you sleep better.

Very nice Shatril. I especially like the collection of stones in the middle around the larger spheres. What kind of stones are they? I like the dragons on the cloth too, very beautiful.

The stones are simply glass decorative stones that I use for floral decorations. The glass globes actually float on water. When I have the altar set up for balancing my root chakra, I use a glass bowl of water, and place the red glass stones one bottom and float the red globes in it.
Thank you for the complement on the altar. It works nicely for me.

I haven't done the altar because my parents, I think I have the same problem that Darkraven. I did the meditation anyway and I felt more centered and grounded, more relaxed, better.

Well you could always use just a small red candle, without going through the altar process. Hey you may even want to put on a red outfit, which will bath your body in the red vibration that will vibrate at the same speed as the chakra. Same goes with any of the altars, just try a candle and wearing the chakra color during the meditation. The folks will never know.

I made the altar, its on the bottom shelf of where my TV is. It has a hand carved pine stick, for Earth. And three red candles with the four petal lotus inscribed in them. They are all on a pretty table cloth that I found a few months ago :D The meditation didn't really seem to get any results with me, but I think I will try again when I get home on Sunday.

It sounds like a wonderful altar. I'm sorry that the meditation didn't do much. I hope you have better results on Sunday. Take your time with it, and plant those roots deep, and visualize the energy coming up from the earth. The first time you do this may take a while to get those roots planted, but once you do, the meditation goes much easier.
