Oo, oo, I'm hyperventilating I'm so excited. :ahhhh: UPS man came yesterday, so I've now got Robin Wood, Hanson Roberts, Hudes, Gendron, and Alchemical. Besides the Crow's Magick I got Monday.
I'll start scanning some comparative pics this weekend, like Dagda did for some of the original threads on cards back in April - any requests for fav cards?
First impressions:
Robin Wood - some of you already have this, I think. Connected to it immediately - I think I'll be using this one the most. Makes a nice change from Universal Waite. Funny, I didn't think I was going to like it (the usual loner - "if everyone else likes it I won't" type of reaction :) ) The 2 of Swords is very striking - the water behind the girl with the swords is very rough, with sharp rocks on the steep cliffs behind here. Very gray and stormy. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/robinwood/index.html
Gendron - very nice - combo of collage and photography. Purples and blues - it's not a RiderWaite clone. I connect to it differently than a RW clone - it makes you think more since the symbology is a bit different. But the pics really draw you in. The faces kind of throw me - you start looking at a person and it looks like a painting, then you see the face which is a photograph - sometimes they don't seem to blend. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/gendron/index.html
Hudes - I really like this one too - very different feel from the others. It's what I call my 'quiet' deck. There doesn't seem to be alot of activity in the pics - even the 5 of wands just has 2 guys staring at each other, holding wands, with 3 others stuck in the ground. No one ever seems to be touching. Strange. It's more of a watercolor deck, with ancient maps in the background of alot of cards. My favorite card is the Sun - gold, with a face - 8 straight rays, and 8 more rays with 8 other rays curling around it. Bottom has 6 different flowers, and background is a grey marble. I never did like the usual kid on a horse version of the Sun. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/hudes/index.html
Hanson Roberts - this is my least favorite. I mean, it's nice, but the thing that drives me *absolutely crazy* is the dark black outline around all the objects in the pics. Other decks are outlined (Robin Wood is), but this is so dark it's the first thing I pick up on. And for some reason I just don't like their faces - must remind me of some people I don't like. Anal, I know. We'll see if I get used to it. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/hansonroberts/index.html
Alchemical - wow. Have just flipped through the cards - and I don't know anything about alchemy. So the symbolism mostly passed me by. The book starts out with 40 pages on alchemy, so that's going to be a help. Oh goody, something new to learn. This is definitely going to be a study deck - I'm going to have to work at it.
