OK, do we know how the various members in the areas affected by this storm made out?

I know that bladeraven, and indebted are somewhere safe.
Or they've been heard from...
Still unsure if their homes are still standing.

Who else is down there that we know of? Rowan Magera and Valnorran come to mind...I'm hoping that those we don't hear from only have their electric out and can't log on.....

I'm not sure.
But, I can tell you that if there's lines down it may take a week or so before they get electric back on... (which can be a major pain not to have, unless your prepared for it, and still it's not so much fun.)
Hoping all is well!

My husband and I evacuated, but we've returned home and everything is a-ok.

I made it. Came through without a scratch, actually. Nearly had an uprooted tree take out a corner of my house, but it missed. The mess in the yard is quite minimal. Most of the downed limbs I was able to drag to a future burn pile by hand. I was without electricity for about 20 hours. My mother is still without it. My mother in law broke a wrist and two toes when she got out of bed in the night to answer the phone. Apparently she stood up too quickly and got dizzy and fell. My area had gusts of about 50 mph and quite a bit of rain. The bayou overran its banks some, but nothing major. Nothing like I've seen it flood in the past. Katrina hit to the left of us, Rita to the right...
... here I am stuck in the middle with you.

My hubby and daughter will definitely go back tomorrow. My son and I may wait here a few days to take care of the ticket he got from the accident he had.
Our neighbor turned on the breaker to our A/C and it kicked on, so we have electric power. Now to wonder if we ever lost it.....

I heard from Bladeraven at about 11 this morning when she was on her way home. I just got in myself and found a PM from her. Bladeraven and Grasshopper are home, safe and unpacking. Apparently, her home is inhabitable. She's going to rest up before she comes back online. She does have some tales to tell...

I'm up in the Dallas area, which didn't get touched by the storm, and I'm fine. My dad who stayed through it in Sugar Land said he didn't even see a drop of rain. There are going to be a LOT of bloodthirsty Houstonians when they all get back.

I'm in the Dallas area too... Mid Cities actually. And, as you knnow, all we had yesterday was a slightly overcast day. But I did feel two sprinkles though. (Count 'em, two)! And those who stocked up on water and peanut butter... it was all for nothing. :foopsies:

Glad to see the news on who is okay and who only got a drop or two of rain. Yes, including you Valnorran...( stuck in the middle huh? :D)
As for emergency preparedness or running ahead of the storm. I have always prepared for every storm as well as I can, I update my supplies and most of the time we didn't need them. But when we did need them, thank the powers that be we had them. Please don't be angry you used common sense and prepared, evacuated or battened down your hatches.
I really believe that part of what keeps harm from your door is being ready for it. Warm hugs to all.

I'm glad the members we've heard from are ok. As for the members that haven't checked in yet, I'm sending positive energy their way and hope all is well with them.

For being advised to evacuate? Better to have evacuated when not necessary in the long run, than to have stayed and been caught in the storm. Glad to know you and yours are okay.

Well, we weren't hit nearly as hard as anticipated. We ended up with 40+ mph winds that took down a few trees and knocked some shingles off the roof. Rain wise I think the final count was around 5 inches. Only lost power for about 6 hours.
I feel for South Louisiana. They got hit hard - again. Lake Charles is in the worst shape of all of it. Poor New Orleans had the levees breach right out the gate. I am grateful everyone made it out alive though.

Doing great here...just disappointed about the fact that they hadn't thought about doing the contralanes on the way out....I think it would have freed up a lot of the traffic and solve the gas issue...
Galveston had some fires and we lost Yago's there but the plus side is no deaths which is great...Houston/Galveston lucked out big time this time...we dodged a HUGE bullet and learned some lessons in the meantime....such as the importance of opening up all northbound lanes irregardless to let out 2.8 million people,

I'm home, definitely a better safe than sorry evacuation on my part. I came home on Friday afternoon to 98 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, to be followed by a whole weekend of the same... Unfortunately I had taken the wireless antenna out of my computer at my sister's in-laws' house where we evacuated to, and forgot it there. So I was without computer access until I went out and got a cable to hook my computer up directly... what a nuisance.
thanks everyone for thinking of us, and hope everyone who actually did get hit is safe!

Been out of commision for a few days, so glad to hear it looks like everyone's ok :fprtyman2 .
On a related note, a lady evacuated from Katrina staying at Camp Edwards here in Massachusetts has just had a son and named him Cape Cod-C.C. for short. What a nice gesture :huddle: (I'm verklempt)........
