I dont know if this has been asked before, but I have begun wondering this lately...
To those who are experienced with past lifetimes regression or whom are familiar with their own past lifetimes -- Do lifetimes have a similar undertone to them?
Say specific people you encounter and have relationships with (any type of relationship) along several lifetimes; Losing a child along several lifetimes; Experiencing some sort of trauma or event along several lifetimes; Etc.
I hope I am making sense here LOL

My lives seem to have some common traits yet at the same time they're very different. I remember losses of family in each lifetime, a hurt from people I trusted but that's the only thing in common with the majority. It isn't them all.
I guess it's just when you don't learn first time around it repeats.

Well in my POV we get reborn/reincarnated because our soul has to learn/overcome/understand/experience something.
If it is not understood or overcome then that lesson may be repeated.
So if in one a child was lost and the lesson was not learned (say in that life you became a drunk and killed yourself-- just an example) than you might have missed the whole point of that life and that experience and event.
It may happen in many lifes-- over and over and over-- until that is learned and overcame.
I also believe we are reincarnated with family-- that for some reason our souls are linked. The dynamics and relationships may be different-- my father might have been my daughter for example-- but we are connected. I also read that those we have stong hate and attraction to were part of our past lives in some form of the other.
I don't see reincarnation as a punishment, rather it is a place where we learn, grow and experience life.
When we have learned our purpose-- it could be as little as 5 lifetimes or as many as 300+-- then I believe we are released from the cycle and become part of the Source (the pure energy and light that is part of all and all are connected to).
So basically to answer you're question, like I said, it is because you have not learned the lesson and reached that goal yet.
This is what I grew to leaning and believing-- out of all my beliefs, these (reincarnation/rebirth and souls) are constantly steadfast no matter how much I change.

Mine have a similar "taste" to them, but that's me and my soul I guess. 2 take place in the same part of the world... my father in one is my father in this life, but I think I chose that because in the other life I died as a little girl - I obviously wanted my daddy back when I came back :) apart from that though, I haven't seen any of the same people elsewhere.

Oddly enough similar people, way different socio-economic classes, looked different too. I don't know tons about it because I just have these odd dreams like memories that come up.

For me it's not so much a reaccuring event as a profession. I seem to recall that I have been in the same line of work for a long, long time. Death in some form. I recall being an embalmer in the past, and even though I don't work as one today, I still have that close connection to that feild. I can handle seeing and dealing with death better that most around me.

when i did my past life regression there were a few things similar in each life..
i was sick.. no one knew what it was but it was the same each time which could well be the same thing i have now
I was always a bit of a loner.. with a small, familiar circle of trusted friends
I always seemed to be mis-understood .. not a whole lot different from now..
there always seemed to be a feeling of taboo and mystery surrounding my past lives too

People tend to reincarnate in "family groups", because family bonds are very strong. The best example of this are the Jews. The Orthodox Jews have always believed in reincarnation. They believe that Jews reincarnate as Jews. I have a friend who is an Hassidic Rabbi, and because he is a very dear friend, I love to tease him. You see, while the 12 Tribes were spending 40 years out in the desert, I happened to be of the Tribe of Levi. So I tell him that while Moses was a great man, he was also an a**hole. I liked Aaron.
Now while people do tend to reincarnate in family groups, that doesn't mean that people stick to a genetic group. A Family group will often migrate to other areas of the planet over a period of a few hundred years, and family groups will split up at times, when some members progress at a faster rate Spiritually than others are.
One of the saddest things that can happen, is when a person makes a big push on their Spiritual development, and changes so much that they are rejected by their family group entirely. Then they must go their own way for awhile until they find a group of like minded souls, and form a new family group.
I don't remember all of my past incarnations, and there are many I only have glimpses of, but over the last 10,000 years I have lived on every continent of the planet, and as a member of every race. I figure we all have...
