I've had my tarot deck for about a year now (I have the Renaissance Deck), and they are starting to become very faded and torn. Although I love my old deck, I think it is time I purchase a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions for a really good tarot deck? All input would be appreciated.

Dear Yemayasdaughter,
I have enjoyed for years The Robin Wood Deck. It's strong colors appeal to me and I've used it almost exclusively for personal readings and spells. I have also stumbled across a really fun deck called The Whimsical Tarot, it's a brightly colored deck that uses childrens stories and nursery rhymes as the basis. Some of the major arcana are a hoot! For instance, Jiminy Cricket is Judgement and the scarecrow from Oz is the Fool. In lesser trumps we have the Ugly Duckiling representing the 5 of pentacles and the Owl and the Pussycat as 2 of cups. What's really fun is that my grandkids have taken to this with such ease, they are having more fun working spreads then I remember having because the cards make sense! No pondering over the symbols, everyone knows that when the Tower ( depicted by the Big Bad Wolf blowing the piggy's house of straw down) is in the near future position, change is in the air!
Hope you find the right deck easily!
hugs Otter

I'm working with three decks right now that I really love.

One is Robin Wood, already mentioned. It's symbolism and pictures are very close to the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, but more pagan, without the cabbalistic and cerimonial magic symbolism.

Another is the Arthuian tarot. Beautiful art, whether you'd like this one depends on how much you connect with the Arturhian mythos.

Last but not least is Sacred Circle. Pagan from the ground up, absolutely beautiful photo art of Britian's standing stones and other pagan landmarks. This is my favorite deck right now, it just seems to "work" for me very well.

Happy hunting!

I use the Tarot of a Moon Garden, Faerie Oracle, Unicorn Tarot, and Goddess Tarot, I've also had the Arthurian Tarot. The Goddess Tarot is my newest and the most beautiful, the Moon Garden deck is very pretty and whimsical, and the Faerie Oracle is fun and silly. I guess it would help to know what you like? I like decks with complicated paintings and beautiful pictures myself.

there's alot of good tarot decks available. some have been mentioned here already. you should get a deck that 'speaks' to you, cause if you can't connect to it, you won't use it.
however, having been asked for my opinion i will give it.
to me, ALL other decks are secondary to the Thoth Tarot. it is far and away the greatest work in the medium (and here's the obligitory IMHO).
i have many tarot decks, but the two best are the Thoth (large) and the Thoth (small). there are many books available to support it, and some of them aren't too bad.
okay, so OTHER than the Thoth deck (did i mention that i like that one?), i also like an out-of-print deck called 'the Magickal Tarot', which is based on (you guessed it) the Book of Thoth! this is not a very pretty deck, but a very serious study of the tarot as it relates to the Qabala.
my third favorite would probably be the Haindl deck. i'm not that crazy about the minors, but the majors i think are outstanding. i sometimes do work with the trumps alone, and i keep this deck separated for that reason.
and then there's the Baseball tarot...

Take the link Xois gave you and spend an hour or two looking at all the pics. That's how I figured out what I thought I'd like. I don't dare go back there for awhile.
