Hey Mysticwickers!
I'm looking for a place to host a journal online and I'd like to hear your opinions on what free services of this nature you like the best. Some of the best known ones are places like Diaryland (http://www.diaryland.com/) and LiveJournal (http://www.livejournal.com/) as well as services like Blogger (http://www.blogger.com/), but I'd like to know what you like!
Which hosts/services have the best features, most customizability, complete lack of ads? Have you used any of these sites and did you like/not like them? Why? You get the picture. :D
Thanks in advance for your help! I look forward to reading all those reply posts. :D

I have a blog at blogger (http://www.blogger.com) that I write in for my friends so I don't have to email them and stuff. I like it because it's very simple and easy to understand.
I also have a diary where I can let it all out at diary-x (http://www.diary-x.com). I like where they can make the layouts for you, and you only have to pick the colors.

Hon there's a thread in Pagan Geek about journals and journal software etc., just in case you missed it :)
Diaryland seems to be ok tho you can't change the layout or theme of your journal, blogger and blogspot (if I remember correctly it's actually blogspot that hosts, and blogger is the software used to make the journal) seem to have a lot of ads and I had a few problems sometimes with blogger. LiveJournal requires you to pay or be invited by a current member. I use the greymatter script on the server I pay for because there's no worry about speed or downtime (if it's not working my whole site is down, unlike free servers) and because it's hugely customizable, has lots of cool features (integrated commenting, archiving, karma voting, searching, IP banning, etc.).
Do you currently have a site up?

I personally like LiveJournal. It's never done me wrong. It's the only one I've ever used, though, so I have no basis for comparison.

I like scribble - http://scribble.nu
it goes down occasionally (once in a blue moon), but it's entirely customizable and there are no ads! yay! :D

Oh, actually I did. :O Thanks! I'll check it out. :D

Actually, you can; it's highly customizable if you know HTML. You can do all your coding from scratch and just add the necessary cgi variables to your code.

I do, actually, at http://broomcloset.diaryland.com/ I'm just looking to set up another diary space and I thought I'd check a few other things out before using Diaryland again. I like Dland a lot, I just like variety. :)
Thanks again everyone!

PS Myst, I've thought of Greymatter myself. I'll be checking out the Pagan Geek thread on the whole diary issue, though, rather than discussing it here! :D
