Hey I don't know if anyone ever checks out "Charmed" but there's a symbol on their BOS and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what it really means.

Heylo!!
The symbol, i believe, is called a triquetra which is latin for three-cornered. It has been known to represent the triple goddess and/or life, death and rebirth in Pagan religions, or the Holy Trinity in Christianity.
Hope I've helped!

I noticed that Charmed does take a Christian overtone sometimes. Which annoys me. Their first episode was called "Something Wiccan comes this way" or along the lines of that. It's Wiccan. there should be references to the Goddess or a Goddess not God as in the Christian god.
Thats just my rant of the day :)

But it's on the "I'm a good Christian, but very horny" network that is the WB. If it ever gets put on UPN like Buffy they might dump all that stuff.

The Charmed Ones aren't Wiccans, they are Witches. They always refer to themselves as Witches. Wicca believes in a female/male aspect in Nature, not necessarily a God/Goddess. Even if they believed in One God, that One God could be a hermaphrodite and have the aspects of male and female, which would work with Wicca.
The symbol on the book is the symbol of 3. Usually things happen in 3's ----> Trinity, 3 Aspects of the Goddess, the Celtic Triads, things in Nature, Human Life (ReBirth, Growth, and Death then all over again)...

Reverse the WIcca and Witch thing and you are right, Wiccans believe in the gods and goddesse's. Witches dont necessarly have a pantheon.

Depends on your own definition of Wicca actually.
In my humble (and very debatable) opinion, if you aren't Alexandrian or Gardnerian you aren't Wiccan - you're a Witch or Pagan. But that's just me. Everyone has their own thinking on it and far be it from me to tell others what to do. My thinking is just my own so feel free to ignore it. :)

The girls on "Charmed" consider themselves Wiccan.. On quite a few episodes, they refer to themselves as Wiccan, not only as Witches. I am not ashamed to say I enjoy the show quite a bit.. LOL
And if frequent viewers of the show recall... they actually used a Wiccan High Priestess (or an actress playing one) to perform Prue's (Shannen Doherty's character) funeral, which I thought was pretty cool.
And yeah.. they symbol on the BOS is a Triquetra (sp.?) ... It is also a symbol of the Triple Goddess, but imho, they use it to represent the "power of three" on the show.
Now... if anyone has any questions about Felicity... they know who to call.. me!!! (BTW.... Felicity has an openly Wiccan character.. Meghan!!)

They are wiccan.....and the first episode is known as "something wiccan this way comes".....
*shrug*...i think whoever writes it needs to learn more about paganism in general anyway.....

Wrong actually. Go to a Charmed fan site and look at some transcripts. Look at the name of a few episodes.

I think you're talking about the triquatra symbol right? I just learned what the name for it was, though it's a symbol I've used for a while.
From what I understand (and everything I read says the contrary) it has history with some very old Welsh covens and is a symbol of protection and balance. There's a similar one that's done to the shape of a square instead of triangle.
When I first read this post I was like "charmed, oh god, another 'witch' show," but I started looking around and checked out some stuff and the show looks interesting. I think I'll check it out

I don't know if this has anything to do with the triquetra symbol or not. But I noticed that it is formed when you take three circles and place them together in an over laping pyramid shape. ???

They are both Wiccans and Witches.

The symbol on the Charmed one's BOS also stands for the Celtic sign for the triple goddess. The one's that I've seen don't have the circle intergrated into it though. I've got one that's for my nose (& yes it's small), it's also classed by some as a Celtic knot to represent life. Hope that little piece of info helps.

Myst, just curious...why do you think that wiccans have to be either alexandrian or gardnerian? Is it because they both stem from the original form of Wicca?

Yup.
But before we all get in a debate about that, I don't want to argue with anyone about it. My opinion isn't going to change and I don't expect anyone else's too. It's all good ;)

That would be "sioux" btw.
And actually the symbol you showed is not identical to a triquatra/triquetra.
The triquetra is an interlocking triple Mandorta, and is much smoother then the symbol you showed.

LOL hey! Who says the ancient Klingons weren't actually Celtics who got "deported" from Earth???? ;)
Or that ancient Celtics were the decendent of Klingon colonizers. . . . ^_~
