when he writes ..."the mother of the year..." I am reminded of the wheel of the year and the pagan crone imagining the mother getting older as autumn turns to winter.

I always think personifying the seasons makes a poem sound so pagan and I particularly appreciate his use of color in this poem. It's very appropriate isn't it? :)

Yes, the yellow. I remember growing up that in our four acres we had indian paintbrushes growing in the field. The yellows were so beautiful.
