I hope I spelled agnostic right!
Really quickly......
Are there any witches who don't believe in Gods and goddess's.....or a higher power.
I believe in there being a universal energy connecting us all.......
please let me know of your thoughts....
Thank you!

I guess I always thought of myself as Wiccan....
and that most witches believe in Gods and Goddess'.
I think I am going through a major transformation spiritually, and needs guidance.
I have been through so much in the past year or so, and lost where I was.
......thank you!
I will write more tomorrow:)

witches and Wiccans are not synonomous.
many many witches are not Wiccan, myself included. so while some kind of belief in the gods is pretty much prerequisite for a Wiccan, this is not necessary just to practice witchcraft.

*raises hand* Me! It's not that I don't believe there isn't a god, or gods, etc, It's just I haven't found my own proof yet. I'm open to the idea, but it's not a part of my practice at present.

I look forward to reading more on your post! :) I've been in a similar situation in the last year, so I'd be happy to help where I can.

At one time I was agnostic and at another atheistic, all while practicing Witchcraft.

Actually, let's make this more interesting. A brief summary of my beliefs over the course of my time practicing Witchcraft, in no particular order:

Atheistic
Agnostic
Polytheistic (soft)
Duotheistic
Polytheistic (hard)

And for now I'm wavering between polytheistic (hard) and monolatristic (though I'm not even sure that is the right word for it, I've not been able to find it in any dictionary). [shrugs]

What do you mean by monolatristic?

What do you mean by monolatristic?

Monolatry, the practice or worship of only one god without denying the existence of others.

However, I'm uncertaint of what that would make someone who practices such (as in, the actual word for it). [shrugs]

Does a Naturalistic Pagan fit what you are describing? Us Naturalistic Pagans don't believe in any gods or supernatural, and celebrate our world and the seasons using the 8 pagan holidays and other pagan ideas as metaphors. I just wrote a whole bunch about it on page 2 of this thread:

Is that what you were thinking of?

Also - Aidon- I've heard that called Henotheism. I think that term goes back a ways too. Maybe they are synonymous?

Love and Light-

No, Henotheism is the practice of worshiping one or more gods, one of which is supreme.

Monolatry is the practice of worshipping only one god, without denying the existence of others.

Airdon... what you're describing can *also* be defined as Henotheism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henotheism

There are tons of definitions of both 'monolatry' and 'henothiesm'.

I am personally of the variety that feels that there is a singular Divine with many aspects. I choose to call this Monolatry, as it is one of the defintions of the word. Of course... that's also one of the definitions of henothiest. lol

Read this very carefully:

Henotheism is similar but less exclusive than monolatry because a monolator worships only one god, while the henotheist may worship any within the pantheon, depending on circumstances. In some belief systems, the choice of the supreme deity within a henotheistic framework may be determined by cultural, geographical, or political reasons.

There is very much a distinct difference, however, I may very well possess more henotheistic leanings than monolatrist (which isn't even a word... [grumbles]) ones. I'll sort it out, with time. [shrugs]

I'm agnostic, but I believe you got the terms agnostic and athesit mixed ^_^ agnostic is the belief that there are gods/goddesses, however you are uncertain as to what/don't care. Atheist is the belief that gods and goddesses don't exsit...

But, yes, there are many witces who don't believe in higher powers ^_^

actually agnostics believe that the gods may or may not exist, but that no proof is possible. and yes, atheists believe that gods do not exist (which in itself takes alot of faith, imo).

I have been there too hon. :hugz: For me, what eventually happened is that I changed my idea of what "God" is. The very fact that we, as a giant bag of mostly water can do the things we do proves to me there is a divine. I'm sure that's not enough for alot of people. When I write a poem, or paint a painting or create a sculpture, I feel the divine. Not in the final product, but in the act. Whether I am am imitating divinity or accessing the divinity in myself, I don't know, but there is divinity in it. I see the divine in the effects of prayer, kindness and even in a smile. I see the divine when the river rises up and clears out everything in her path. I don't believe in coincidence.

Have you read about the big bang theory? Have you studied different ideas of divinity, especially in Hinduism and Buddhism? The more viewpoints you look from, the more you will probably see, IMHO.
