hey im not sure what thread this should go into but...yeah.

so i have this friend at school who is pregnant at 17 and she feel really bad about it. she was raised by an extremely christian family so she feels like she's sinned and is going to hell. in addition, she's always had a high grade point average and is in all of these clubs at school but now that shes pregnant shes lost most of these opportunities and positions she's had were given to other students so she feels like there's no point in trying anymore. she also confided to me that she was diagnosed as manic depressive and is taking medication. i wanted to do something nice for her, like a present. i know i plan on making like a cd with inspiring songs/songs about motherhood/songs she likes...and im tryign to incorporate some of her favorite things. her favorite movie is the wizard of oz and her favorite color is red... i dont know much else but i wanted to know if i could find a goddess that applies to this situation to give her strength or something. i know demeter is a popular mother goddess that is usually presented as "softer" than other "mother" goddesses like Isis, Kali, Morrigan, etc. but i wanted to know if any of you had any ideas as well. any help is appreciated.

How about keeping her hopes up and urging her to stay in school. Remind her that there are many many options for her. That would be the greatest gift you could give.

Both Taweret and Bast are Kemetic Goddesses associated with being a mommy.

Also.. a poem might be a good thing to include. Something like yes things are hard, but you're going to have the most beautiful creature in your arms in X months, take care of her and show the world that you can over come and flourish in anything!

Also... she should know that she's not alone. I had Megan when I was 14.

You mentioned your friend's family was Christian - is she? Whether or not she is - the first person that comes to my mind in a situation like this is none other than the Virgin Mary. Cold hard fact: she was an unwed teen mother. And I don't mean that sarcastically. Look at the time Mary lived in - what was she, about 14-16? Historically women were betrothed and wed at a very young age. Her betrothed, Joseph, was a good man (late 20's thru 30's?) who decided to "divorce her quietly" when he found out about her pregnancy before a dream was sent to him. If he had claimed his full right - Mary quite possibly could have been stoned. But greater things were afoot.

Your friend is in a difficult situation, yes, but she's got to look forward - especially now that she has herself and the baby to take care of. She will have help and she should not lose hope. Encourage her to continue school - though it will be a difficult path, she can still attain her dreams. I send all my thoughts and prayers to her.

Blessed Be!
