I thought I'd start a thread of positive quotes to read when to help you get through the day. The only rule is that they have to be positive or motivational and thoughtful!

October6, 2005 Helping Hands and Hugs Quote of the Day:

"I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning."

--J.B. Priestly (1894-1984) English Author

I thought that was a great quote and had to share.

I've always loved this quote:
"Someone was hurt before you; wronged before you; hungry before you; frightened before you; beaten before you; humiliated before you; raped before you; yet, someone survived." - Maya Angelou

I don't know how positive it is but its always helped me.

It shall not last the night.
But - oh my friends and ah! my foes
It gives a lovely light!"

Well, mine is a bible verse,in my own words,it says to be carefull and remember to entertain and bless the stranger, for some have entertained angels and were not aware of it.

An angel may come your way,so be carefull how you treat the stranger.

To add to this,by the way,we all have apionted angels to watch over us,and to help us.

I was reading about October 7th...and on this day English explorer, Captain Cook, discovered New Zealand. So with that in mind here is my quote of the day:

"When we seek to discover the best in others, we somehow bring out the best in ourselves."

I'm pretty sure I had put this on another thread, but it's a favorite!

"Furthermore, we have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us. The labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, and where we had thought to find an abomination, we will find a god. And where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves. Where we had thought to travel outward, we will come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we will be with all the world."

-Joseph Campbell

Well I am behind a day so I better make THIS one pretty good!

Come on and add some inspiring quotes to help us all get through the day!

The moment we begin to fear the opinons of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.

Hope

Hope, like the gleaming taper's light,
Adorns and cheers our way;
And still, as darker grows the night,
Emits a brighter ray.

ok, here are some of my favorites. some are amusing, rather than inspirational, but I figure it's just as good to begin a day highly amused as inspired.

- Why Be Normal?
. . .seen on a button

- In a single blade of grass, entire universes may exist unseen and unknown...
- And is it so, that somewhere, to someone else, our entire universe is naught but a blade of grass to be plucked and tossed aside?
. . .Alan Dean Foster, from
Carnivores of Light and Darkness

- For my entire life, I've played roles - to fit in, to meet expectations, to act the part, until they almost became part of myself. If I were to drop these roles, to be myself, who is there left for me to be?
. . .Patricia Briggs, paraphrased from
Dragon Bones

- Listening is the best remedy for loneliness, loquatiousness, and laryngitis.
. . . Wiliam Arthur Ward

- Build a Better Mousetrap, and the world will build a Better Mouse.
. . .Unknown

- When in danger or in doubt,
run in circles, scream and shout
. . . Robert Heinlein, from The Cat Who Walks through Walls

- Yeild to temptation, it may not pass this way again.
. . . Robert Heinlein, from The Notebooks of Lazarus Long

- When in doubt, deny all terms and definitions.
. . . Bill Watterson

- At night my mind seems not to care,
If what it thinks is here or there.
It tells me stories it invents,
And makes up things that dont make sense.
I don't know why it does this stuff -
The real world seems quite weird enough!
. . . Bill Watterson

These are really poems but they are two of my favorites

*Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne'er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day
Can tell the definition,
So clear, of victory,

As he, defeated, dying,
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Break, agonized and clear.
___________________________________

*A wounded deer leaps highest,
I've heard the hunter tell;
'T is but the ecstasy of death,
And then the brake is still.

The smitten rock that gushes,
The trampled steel that springs:
A cheek is always redder
Just where the hectic stings!

Mirth is the mail of anguish,
In which it cautious arm,
Lest anybody spy the blood
And "You're hurt" exclaim!

These are both Emily Dickinson

We have some catching up to do... so here's some more. :)

"Be inspired with the belief that life is a great and noble calling; not a mean and groveling thing that we are to shuffle through as we can, but an elevated and lofty destiny." - William E. Gladstone

"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor." - Henry David Thoreau

"Solitary trees, if they grow at all, grow strong" - Winston Churchill

"Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable." - Sydney J. Harris

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. " - Unknown

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing." - Unknown

"After awhile you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn that love doesn't mean possession
and company doesn't mean security.
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises and you begin to accept
your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of an adult not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build your roads today
because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
and futures have ways of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine
burns if you get too much so you plant your
own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
that you really are strong
and you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn..." <-- One of my favorites.
