I have been a practicing solitary witch for the past five years of my life. I knew it was the path for me long before but of course I was raised in a christian family and always thought that my feelings of distance and distrust of the church made me a sinner. Funny how it they use scare tactics huh? I am completely at peace when alone with nature and I feel so alive. I know this is the path ment for me. Magic has never failed me. Anyway my problem is that I have been so consumed by school that I really feel lost. I am an RN and currently a pre-med student. On top of that I have 5 beautiful children. I guess I'm just searching for some encouragement and insight. I find it hard to incorporate all this science with my spirituality. Any words of wisdom, love or light would be so very much appreciated. I must say in the short time in which I found mw I have been very impressed by the love and kindness I have found here. I feel very much home. :broomride

Lots of focusing energies to you! The one thing that I had to constantly remind myself of when I was living in the dorms at college was to make sure that I took time for myself. I time where I would be alone, I could breathe, meditate, and just be. If there is one thing I could tell you it would be to make sure you are taking time to be by yourself and to be able to commune with the nature that you love.

Is the bio medical way the right path for you? Maybe a more earth-based healing way is would be better for your path.. like midwifery, herbal medicine, etc. Just my thoughts as someone will bio science degrees who left that path a long time ago with no regrets.

Well, I've been a clinical scientist for over 20 years, and feel solidly that science and witchcraft, are complementary,if not downright intertwined. Look at the medicines made from plants-what comes to mind immediately in the salicin in willow, a tree witches have always linked to healing. Lithium, a mineral. Look at the studies done on aromatherapy-element of air in action. Laser surgery and cauterization, element of fire. Hydrotherapy, element of water. Consider coumadin-animal magic and so on.
Look at the god and goddesses associated with health and healing-Hygiea, Asclepius, Sekhmet, Athena, and so on.
Perhaps you are an empath and are picking up emotion and pain from patients and their families, and other staff as well. You may have done so already as a nurse, but since you have extra physical and emotional stresses on yourself, you may be more suseptible to the effects of being an empath, which may be draining you.
Try to make time for yourself for ritual cleansings, even if its only a handful of sea salt rubbed on your body in the staff shower. Clear your own chakras to give yourself health clearance after seeing patients, anad drink plenty of water.

If you can stay in touch with your spirituality it would be a great asset to many of your patients. In the way that the very scientific can make you feel disconnected, imagine how some people can be overwhelmed with the science of their treatment.
As a mother and nurse I imagine it is easy to lose track of your own needs. You are most comfortable when serving. Your spiritual well-being will be of help to those around you.
If you can, do it for yourself though.
As for science and magic I think the following thread might be of interest to you.

There is a minority of witches who believe magic is (albeit a powerful one) simply a tool for the mind. There are a great deal who believe it doesn't break natural laws. Feeling that magic runs parallel to science doesn't make you less spiritual or less witchy. Just my opinion!
Good luck to you! :hugz:
